Dans le cadre de la série Les Immortels, l’audacieux chanteur à la voix suave et profonde, Mohamed Jebali, et la brillante cantatrice au timbre éthéré, Leila Gouchi, redonnent chair à deux grandes icônes du monde arabe, la « Voix du Liban » Wadih Al-Safi et la « Rose algérienne » Warda. Ensemble, ils comptent bien raviver une fois de plus la flamme de plus d’un demi-siècle de chefs-d’œuvre. Le spectacle perpétue une tradition d’appropriation musicale mutuelle où Machrek et Maghreb défient les frontières des identités figées pour embrasser une « musique arabe » foisonnante et universelle.

As part of the Les Immortels series, daring deep-voiced singer Mohamed Jebali and brilliant ethereal singer Leila Gouchi give new life to two great icons of the Arab world, the “Voice of Lebanon” Wadih Al-Safi and the “Algerian Rose” Warda. Together, they intend to rekindle the flame of over half a century of masterpieces. The show perpetuates a tradition of mutual musical appropriation in which Mashreq and Maghreb defy the boundaries of fixed identities to embrace an abundant and universal “Arab music”.

Young the Giant à la Place Bell

De la tranquillité légèrement troublante de “Islands” à l’envolée captivante du thème de la transition dans “Apartment”, la musique de Young the giant passe de refrains novateurs à des mélodies percutantes et vice-versa, rendant leur premier effort non seulement captivant, mais aussi envoûtant. À ce jour, le groupe a reçu d’innombrables récompenses en tant que “groupe à suivre” de la part d’organismes tels que le New York Times, Spin et Nylon, pour n’en citer que quelques-uns, et a été sélectionné par MTV en tant qu’artiste “Push” et “Freshman 5”. Avec “My Body”, le premier single de l’album, qui a atteint la quatrième place des charts Modern Rock aux États-Unis et la première place des charts Rock au Canada, tout en atteignant plus de 1,3 million de vues sur YouTube, et “Cough Syrup” qui commence tout juste son ascension radiophonique, il y a indéniablement quelque chose de spécial à propos de ce groupe.

(Cancelled) Laval Symphony Orchestra / Brahms, Ichmouratov, Elgar

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Collège Montmorency, the Orchestre symphonique de Laval offers a varied program: first, Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture, a work with ceremonious characteristics. That’s followed by a post-romantic discovery… written in the 21st century – Flute Concerto by Montreal composer Aïrat Ichmouratov, a commission from the OSL. Things continue with Edward Elgar’s intense Enigma Variations. The orchestra will once again be conducted by Alain Trudel and the guest soloist (for the Ichmouratov Concerto) will be the well-known flautist Robert Langevin.

Laval Symphony Orchestra: “Violoncelle mon amour”

Composed for cello trio or quartet, the works and arrangements in this programme were conceived by David Popper (1843-1913), Friedrich Grützmacher (1832-1903), Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880), Paul Bazelaire (1886-1958) and Reinhold Glière (1874-1956). With the exception of the latter, it should be noted that the composers played at this concert were once excellent cellists.
