Reconnue par l’émission Ici Musique de Radio Canada comme étant l’une des cinq musiciennes de jazz à surveiller, la chanteuse franco-américaine Laura Anglade est en train de se faire un nom dans le monde du jazz. Le chant de Laura rappelle celui de nombreuses grandes chanteuses traditionnelles du XXe siècle, dont Anita O’Day, Shirley Horn et Blossom Dearie, mais sa voix est unique. Lorsqu’elle s’enfonce avec émotion et éloquence dans un texte, ses capacités à raconter des histoires révèlent une âme au-delà de son âge.

Recognized by Radio Canada’s Ici Musique as one of the top 5 female Jazz musicians to watch out for, French-American singer Laura Anglade is making a name for herself in the Jazz world. Laura’s singing is reminiscent of many of the great traditional vocal stylists of the 20th century including Anita O’Day, Shirley Horn, and Blossom Dearie, but her voice is uniquely her own. As she digs emotionally and eloquently into a lyric, her story-telling abilities portray a soul beyond her years.

Lorsque Kamasi Washington a sorti son LP tour de force, The Epic, en 2015, il s’est instantanément engagé sur la voie du porte-flambeau de notre génération pour une musique progressive et improvisée qui ouvrirait la porte à de jeunes publics pour leur faire vivre une expérience musicale différente de tout ce qu’ils avaient entendu auparavant. L’odyssée de 172 minutes avec son groupe de 10 musiciens, The Next Step, était parsemée d’éléments de hip-hop, de musique classique et de R&B, autant d’influences majeures pour le jeune saxophoniste et chef d’orchestre, qui dépasse toutes les notions de ce qu’est la musique “jazz”.

When Kamasi Washington released his tour de force LP, the epic, in 2015, it instantly set him on a path as our generation’s torchbearer for progressive, improvisational music that would open the door for young audiences to experience music unlike anything they had heard before. The 172-minute odyssey featuring his 10-piece band, The Next Step, was littered with elements of hip-hop, classical and R&B music, all major influences on the young saxophonist and bandleader, who exceeds any notions of what “jazz” music is.

Le Festival international de jazz présente Tash Sultana

Tash Sultana, multi-instrumentiste, autric-compositrice-interprète, productrice et ingénieure, a été surnommé l’un des plus grands artistes musicaux d’Australie. Tash a commencé à jouer de la guitare à l’âge de 3 ans, après avoir reçu un cadeau de son grand-père. A partir de là, Tash a commencé à prendre d’autres instruments tels que le piano/clavier/synthé, la basse, la batterie/percussion, le beatmaking/échantillonnage, le beatboxing, la trompette, le saxophone, la flûte, la mandoline, l’oud, l’harmonica, la lap steel, la flûte de pan et les a arrangés dans des performances en boucle avec un jeu de guitare percutant coïncidant avec une gamme vocale s’étendant sur 5 octaves.

Tash Sultana, the gender fluid multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, producer and engineer, has been dubbed one of the hardest working music exports in Australia. Tash began playing the guitar from the age of 3 after being gifted the instrument from their grandfather. From there Tash began to pick up other instruments such as piano/keyboard/synth, bass, drums/percussion, beatmaking/ sampling, beatboxing, trumpet, saxophone, flute, mandolin, oud, harmonica, lap steel, panpipes and arranged it into loop style performances along with percussive guitar playing coinciding with a vocal range stretching 5 octaves.
