Under the Priori moniker, Québecois musician Francis Latreille has established himself as a crucial voice in underground techno. His 2019 full-length debut On A Nimbus, released on his own NAFF imprint, was a haunting foray into the possibility/impossibility of technological utopia, where elements of dub techno, drum & bass. Chloé Caillet

Chloé Caillet est une DJ, productrice et multi-instrumentiste parisienne. Connue pour ses goûts éclectiques en matière de musique et de mode, elle a joué dans certains des clubs et soirées les plus renommés au monde, notamment lors d’une résidence avec Dixon au Pacha, au Fabric London, au Tek Support New York, au Badaboum, au Hï Ibiza, au Brooklyn Mirage, au Rumors de Guy Gerber et, plus récemment, lors de sa résidence au Circoloco à Ibiza, ainsi que dans le monde entier.

Chloé Caillet is a DJ, producer and multi instrumentalist from Paris. Kaytraminé at Piknic: vitaminized!

Last April, Montreal producer & DJ Kaytranada and American rapper Aminé surprised many by announcing the birth of their duo KAYTRAMINÉ. In no time, they unveiled 4EVA, a first dance & hip-hop track in collaboration with Pharrell Williams, and announced the imminent release of an album. 

In mid-May, the two men released KAYTRAMINÉ, an eleven-track effort lasting (only!) 34 minutes. Having been touted as THE project of the summer prior to its release, expectations were (very) high, which is one of the reasons why this opus left many wanting more. KAYTRAMINÉ is far from being a bad project, don’t get me wrong. However, the mood of the various tracks is not necessarily what you’d expect after listening to 4EVA. Despite this, the album features good verses from the rapper, interesting guests including Freddie Gibbs and Big Sean, and excellent production that serves the various speakers wonderfully. The two artists’ first collaborative effort will certainly not go down in history, but remains an interesting and different offer from what’s currently being done in hip-hop.

So, here I am at Parc Jean-Drapeau on a Thursday evening to see KAYTRAMINÉ live on stage. Yesterday, the two artists kicked off their short five-concert tour. As a fan of the duo’s solo material, this was a must-see for me, especially as Montreal was their only Canadian date. Kaytranada and Aminé put on an excellent 3-in-1 concert lasting around 75 minutes, and delighted the large crowd gathered near the FIZZ stage.

KAYTRAMINÉ got off to a strong start with a few tracks from their album, beginning with the intro Who He Iz followed by UGH UGH. On stage, Kaytranada took a back seat behind her console, while Aminé took center stage. From the outset, the two artists shine with their charisma and chemistry. It has to be said that they’ve known each other for several years; they actually collaborated on the remix of the song “Not at All” in 2015 (which they actually played during the concert) and the song Egyptian Luvr in 2018. After around twenty minutes, the Montreal DJ left the stage and Aminé strung together several of his most popular tracks, from “REEL IT IN” from “ONEPOINTFIVE” to “Caroline” from his debut album Good For You. We tend to forget it, but the 29-year-old rapper has had several good projects behind the tie since 2017. No doubt, it was during his solo moment that the crowd was most engaged.

You’ve probably already guessed it, but after a fifteen-minute solo performance by Aminé, it was Kaytranada’s turn to shine alone on stage. The Montrealer transformed Parc Jean-Drapeau into a dance floor with an excellent set of his own songs. Behind his table, the thirty-something was all smiles and dancing, and seemed to be having a great time. Afterwards, the two men joined forces on stage to close with “4EVA”, their best duet track (not once, but twice during the encore).

KAYTRAMINÉ put on quite a show on this sold-out evening of Piknic Électronik. The energy of both artists was contagious, and the construction of the concert was downright interesting. On stage, I found KAYTRAMINÉ’s songs more interesting and summery, especially with the crowd singing along. In the end, perhaps the two stars were right: by “summer album”, they meant that this project was designed for summer festivals.

Alinka est le genre de DJ dont les autres DJ vous parleront. Elle a une puissance sur les platines qui la distingue de la masse, et elle se concentre résolument sur son premier amour – la House Music. Élevée au son de la house vibrante de Chicago, avec les pieds plongés dans la techno de Détroit et l’approche plus robuste du genre en Europe, venant de villes comme Berlin, Londres et Paris, Alinka s’est progressivement forgé son propre son à la fois en tant que DJ et productrice, gagnant le soutien de nombreux DJ et clubs respectés sur le circuit mondial.

Alinka is the kind of DJ other DJ’s will tell you about. She has a power on the decks that sets her apart from the masses, and she’s resolutely focused on her first love – House Music. Raised on Chicago’s vibrant house sound with toes dipped into Detroit Techno and Europe’s more robust approach to the genre’s coming from cities like Berlin, London and Paris, Alinka has steadily carved out her own sound both as a DJ and producer gaining support from many respected DJ’s and clubs on the global circuit. Myst Milano

Myst Milano ne peut être arrêté. Rappeur, DJ et producteur originaire de Toronto, iel a passé des années à parcourir la vie nocturne underground, séduit par l’exploration de la musique, de la culture et de la communauté qu’offrent les raves éclairées à la lumière rouge, les mosh pits des concerts punk et le faste de la scène des salles de bal (vogue). Leur carrière d’artiste a fait de Myst un caméléon créatif, une qualité qui leur a permis de partager la scène avec des artistes tels que Thundercat, Lizzo, Rico Nasty, Tinashe et Kim Petras, pour n’en citer que quelques-uns.

Myst Milano can’t be stopped. The Toronto-based rapper, DJ and producer spent years traversing underground nightlife, enamoured by the exploration of music, culture and community offered everywhere from red-lit raves, to punk show mosh pits, to the glitz and pageantry of the ballroom (vogue) scene. Their career as an artist has cemented Myst as a creative chameleon, a quality that has allowed them to share stages with the likes of Thundercat, Lizzo, Rico Nasty, Tinashe, and Kim Petras, just to name a few.

Établie dans les années 90, Misstress Barbara (jeu de mots entre Miss et Stress) est une DJ/Productrice pionnière et l’une des premières femmes DJ superstar qui a contribué à inspirer les générations futures avec ses sets techno explosifs. Tout en étant la tête d’affiche de festivals et d’événements majeurs dans le monde entier, elle a connu une période, dans les années 2000, où elle était régulièrement élue dans le Top 100 des DJ de DJ Mag.

Established in the 90s, Misstress Barbara (word play between Miss and Stress) is a pioneering DJ/Producer and one of the first female superstar DJs who helped inspire future generations with her explosive Techno sets. Whilst headlining major festivals and events globally, there was a period in the ’00s when she was consistently voted inside of DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs.(Misstress Barbara)

Christian Vornweg – connu professionnellement sous le nom de Chris Avantgarde – est un producteur de disques et un compositeur allemand qui réside actuellement à Londres, au Royaume-Uni.En tant que producteur et artiste multi-instrumentiste ayant reçu une formation classique et jazz, il a produit et sorti plusieurs disques de musique de danse avant de s’aventurer dans l’industrie de la musique de film, de bande-annonce et de jeu vidéo. Il écrit et produit également pour de grands labels de musique pop.

Christian Vornweg – professionally known as Chris Avantgarde – is a record producer & composer from Germany who currently resides in London, UK.As a producer and artist with a classically and jazz-trained multi-instrumentalist background, he produced & released several records in dance music before venturing into the film, trailer & video game music industry. Aurora Halal

Aurora Halal est productrice, DJ et créatrice de l’influente série de soirées Mutual Dreaming à Brooklyn et du festival Sustain-Release. Ombrageux et psychédéliques, ses sets ont une sensualité brumeuse et une intensité métallique sur le dancefloor, tour à tour ludique, sombre, euphorique et émotionnellement vulnérable. Aurora Halal is a producer, DJ and creator of Brooklyn’s influential Mutual Dreaming party series & the Sustain-Release festival. Shadowy and psychedelic, her hardware live & DJ sets have a hazy sensuality and metallic dance floor intensity that’s at turns playful, dark, euphoric and emotionally vulnerable. In all her projects she treats dance music as an arena for transformation, and since 2010 her events have been rooted in an underground, DIY approach that pushes forward-thinking sounds, production and ideas.

Personne n’unit un club comme Kerri Chandler. Personne ne frappe plus fort que Kerri Chandler. Personne n’a autant d’émotion dans ses notes. Aucune foule ne réagit avec plus d’énergie que lorsque le grand du New Jersey est derrière les platines. L’obsession qu’il a toujours eue pour le son le rend extrêmement méticuleux quant à la configuration des clubs où il joue, ce qui se traduit toujours par des sets électrisants de house music pleine d’âme, authentique et positive.

Nicola Cruz

Nicola Cruz est un producteur, musicien et DJ, né en France dans une famille sud-américaine. Il vit actuellement à Quito, en Équateur, au cœur des Andes. Sa carrière a commencé en tant que percussionniste, et c’est ce même intérêt pour le rythme qui l’a amené à faire des incursions dans la musique électronique.

Dans sa musique, Nicola cherche à exprimer la passion qu’il a pour les mystères de son pays d’origine, avec ses diverses cultures, ses paysages, ses rituels et ses sons. C’est pour cette raison que sa musique rayonne d’une compréhension intime de la nature, de la qualité organique luxuriante de son son à la douce résolution de ses chansons. De cette connexion musicale entre le passé et le présent, le traditionnel et le moderne, est né un mouvement sud-américain qui explore les cosmologies indigènes et afro locales par le biais d’un son analogique soigneusement élaboré.

Nicola Cruz is a producer, musician and DJ, born in France to a South American family. Currently he lives in Quito, Ecuador, in the heart of the Andes. His career began as a percussionist, and it was this same interest in rhythm that led him to make forays into electronic music.

In his music, Nicola seeks to express the passion he has for the mysteries of his home country, with its diverse cultures, landscapes, rituals and sounds. It is because of this that his music radiates an intimate understanding of nature, from the lush organic quality of his sound, to the gentle resolve of his songs. From this musical connection between past and present, traditional and modern, an ongoing South American movement has arisen, exploring the local indigenous and Afro-cosmologies through a carefully crafted analogue sound. Artiste en pleine ascension, la productrice mexicaine ultima esuna se fait rapidement connaître pour ses productions rêveuses et atmosphériques, souvent empreintes d’émotion, qui s’étendent du dembow au reggaeton en passant par la techno. Son style s’inspire de son héritage latino-américain et se concentre davantage sur des mélodies lentes, qui invitent également à la danse.

An artist very much on the rise, mexican producer ultima esuna is quickly becoming known for her dreamy, atmospheric productions, often seeped in emotion which span across dembow, reggaeton and techno.
