Jazz

(Cancelled) Amir Amiri and Jean-Michel Pilc

by Michel Rondeau

The santur is a struck string instrument, just like the cimbalom and the piano, of which it is a sort of ancestor. As several of its strings can be played simultaneously and successively in “open chord”, it offers a great wealth of resonances and harmonics, which predisposes it to modal music. It is therefore very well suited to jazz improvisation, which both instrumentalists indulge in with renewed pleasure. Amir and Jean-Michel indeed crossed swords for the first time during an improv duo set last November.
