No Joy

by Patrick Baillargeon

One of the leaders of the shoegaze revival, No Joy released four albums and several EPs and singles on the Mexican Summer label. Motherhood, the band’s newest effort, is out on Joyful Noise, a label whose complements/contrasts with that of the Montreal-based band. No Joy will be releasing their fifth album live from the Ritz in Montreal, for the Baby’s Allright bar/restaurant/concert hall in Brooklyn, on Baby TV. Now led by singer and guitarist Jasamine White-Gluz since Laura Lloyd’s departure, No Joy create soundscapes that are both melodic and overwhelming, punctuated with disco, trip-hop, trance, electro, and even nu-metal grooves. On stage, No Joy offers an immersive experience that’s both ultrasonic and dreamlike. Find out more in our interview this Sunday!
