POP Montréal présente Robert Robert et Audrey Bélanger au Belmont

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Robert Robert’s Silicone Villeray, his first French album co-produced with Hubert Lenoir, is an amalgamation of powerful beats and novel slow dance melodies that landed him nominations for both the Félix-Leclerc song award and best alternative album at the ADISQ Gala. After extensively touring around Quebec since 2021 in a trio band formation (Osheaga, Francos de Montréal, FEQ, Mural, FME, Festif! Festival de la Poutine, La Noce…), he finally makes his album tour debut in a Montreal concert hall on September 28, 2022!

Audrey Belanger oscillates between groovy housy sounds and a myriad of disco sonorities. Deeply inspired by music selected by people and not algorithms, she is behind Shift Radio, an independent livestream radio station in Montreal.

Lucky Chops

by Rupert Bottenberg

From the Big Easy to the Balkans, brass bands can be counted on to get the party started. New York City’s Lucky Chops have their own distinctive take on blowing hard through metal tubes, one that’s familiar to more than a few users of that city’s subway system. Their long-overdue debut album of last September is built out of bumping funkiness, buoyant good cheer, and absurdly catchy horn hooks. Lucky Chops also visit schools for pedagogical sessions while touring, bless their socially responsible souls, but it’s a workout, not a workshop, that awaits when they haul out the heavy metal at le Belmont.

Haviah Mighty • Lou Phelps • CJ Flemings

by Alain Brunet

Winner of the 2019 Polaris Award, Toronto rapper Haviah Mighty now sets her sights on the Montreal audience, starting with those checking her out at the Belmont. Since the release of her excellent opus 13th Floor, there’s been little question of her eloquence, her impact, and the quality of the beats wrapped around her machine-gun verbiage. Haviah Mighty is a strong personality, an ego reinforced by multiple victories over adversity – her own condition as a black woman has become a formidable weapon, formidable material for her hip hop expression. She needs to be seen on stage! Sharing the bill are Louis-Philippe Célestin, alias Lou Phelps, younger brother of Kaytranada, and CJ Flemings, another Montreal rapper.
