Il y a treize ans, Caufield et Lira ont commencé à faire de la musique dans une petite ville de l’Arkansas. Au cours de la décennie suivante, après avoir déménagé à Boston en 2012, le duo est devenu un groupe en série dans l’underground de la côte Est. Leurs nombreux projets et sorties DIY ont établi leur pratique économe et disciplinée de l’écriture de chansons, connue de peu de gens.

Sweeping Promises est né dans un laboratoire de béton désaffecté et réverbérant à Cambridge, MA. Enregistré à l’aide d’une “technique de micro unique” et mixé en mono, le groupe a terminé son premier album Hunger for a Way Out juste à temps pour entrer en quarantaine.

Avec un seul concert en sous-sol à leur actif, le groupe a reçu un accueil inattendu, d’abord dans les milieux punk en ligne, puis au-delà. Le groupe doit sa diffusion à la coordination experte de Sam Richardson, directeur du label Feel It Records en Virginie. Sam décrit l’album : “Des guitares anguleuses et des notes de synthétiseur tranchantes flottent sur une section rythmique brute, tandis que les voix effervescentes de Lira Mondal définissent véritablement le son de Sweeping Promises”.

Thirteen years ago, Caufield and Lira began making music in a small town in Arkansas. Over the subsequent decade, having relocated to Boston in 2012, the duo became serial band-starters on the East Coast underground. Their many DIY projects and releases established their thrifty and disciplined songwriting practice, known by few.

Sweeping Promises was born in a disused and reverberant concrete laboratory in Cambridge, MA. Tracked with a self-devised “single-mic technique” and mixed in mono, the band completed their debut Hunger for a Way Out just in time to enter quarantine.

With only a single basement show under their belt, the band received an unexpectedly wide reception, firstly in online punk circles, and eventually stretching beyond. The band owes their circulation to the expert coordination of Sam Richardson, label head of Virginia’s Feel It Records. Sam describes the release: “Angular guitars and sharp synth notes float atop a raw rhythm section, while Lira Mondal’s effervescent vocals truly define Sweeping Promises’ sound.”

Westerman, le maverick pop né à Londres et basé à Athènes, est de retour avec son nouvel album, “An Inbuilt Fault”.

Les neuf chansons de l’album ont pris forme au plus profond de la pandémie et constituent la bande-son de deux années d’isolement intense, de solitude, de chagrin d’amour et d’effroi pour Westerman. L’expression “an inbuilt fault” est elle-même un examen des défauts inhérents et innés qui font de nous des êtres humains – une réponse viscérale à la désillusion de Westerman à l’égard de l’IA et des médias sociaux au cours de cette période.

À travers tout cela, l’album est viscéral et sonne en direct, plein du son de la respiration et des gestes idiosyncrasiques des instruments acoustiques. Il crée une sensation d’espace, donnant l’impression que les musiciens sont rassemblés dans une pièce et se transmettent des idées évolutives.
