FLEECE with Sorry Girls at Sala Rossa

Fleece are a Canadian indie rock band, originating from Montreal. It consists of Matt Rogers, Megan Ennenberg, Jameson Daniel, and Ethan Soil. They released their first album Scavenger in 2015, and gained notoriety when Rogers’ and Soil’s “how to write an Alt-J song” went viral on YouTube in May 2015.

Fleece est un groupe de rock indépendant canadien, originaire de Montréal. Il est composé de Matt Rogers, Megan Ennenberg, Jameson Daniel et Ethan Soil. Ils ont sorti leur premier album Scavenger en 2015, et ont gagné en notoriété lorsque le “comment écrire une chanson d’Alt-J ” de Rogers et Soil est devenu viral sur YouTube en mai 2015.

Denis Gougeon, Conversations pour flûte et orchestre

2nd prize in the OUM 2023 concerto competition

Whether they are composers, conductors, soloists or instrumentalists with the OUM, students from the Faculty of Music will be in the spotlight during this Rising Stars evening! Discover previously unpublished works by the winners of the OUM 2023 Composition Competition, testifying to the creative vitality of the Faculty. Pianist Fiona Wu will be in the spotlight with Beethoven’s Fourth Concerto, a masterpiece of piano literature in which the soloist opens the dialogue. The flute takes center stage in Gougeon’s Conversations for flute and orchestra, in which Catherine Chabot brings out the full expressive and technical potential of the solo instrument.

Qu’ils exercent leur talent en composition, en direction d’orchestre, comme solistes ou instrumentistes au sein l’OUM, les étudiants et les étudiantes de la Faculté de musique seront sous les feux de la rampe lors de cette soirée Étoiles montantes! Découvrez des œuvres inédites des lauréats du Concours de composition de l’OUM 2023, témoignant de la vitalité créatrice de la Faculté. La pianiste Fiona Wu sera à l’honneur avec le Quatrième concerto de Beethoven, chef-d’œuvre de la littérature pianistique lors duquel le soliste ouvre le dialogue. La part belle sera donnée à la flûte dans l’œuvre de Gougeon, Conversations pour flûte et orchestre, qui permettra à Catherine Chabot de mettre en valeur tout le potentiel expressif et technique de l’instrument soliste.

Alexandra Stréliski at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier

Alexandra Stréliski, the pianist with a sensitive and evocative musical style, returns to the stage with a show based on her most recent album, Néo-Romance.

Enveloped in an immersive scenography conceived in collaboration with the French creators of Cirque Leroux, the composer decompartmentalizes the neoclassical universe and travels through various visual tableaux inspired by the great currents of art history. Between intimacy and immensity, Alexandra invites you to contemplate, pause and dream, accompanied by a string trio.

Brel! The Show at Théâtre Maisonneuve

Conceived and directed by Gil Marsalla from Nice-based Directo Productions (Piaf! le spectacle, Formidable Aznavour, Et Maintenant), he now brings us Brel! Le spectacle in its Montreal premiere.

Many speak of him as a reincarnation. On stage, Olivier Laurent doesn’t imitate Brel, he is Brel, bringing the lyrics of his greatest songs to life as if his life depended on it. With this concert, already performed a hundred times before jubilant or tearful audiences in Paris, New York, Stockholm, Beirut, London, Dubai and even Brussels, the artist pays a masterly tribute to the greatest French-speaking singer Belgium has ever known, with his voice, rage, irony and tenderness.

Accompanied by 4 exceptional musicians, he gives his all to the frenetic rhythm of La Valse à mille temps, and plays Ces gens-là, Les Vieux and Les Bigotes with elegance and passion. Olivier Laurent even lets us rediscover Voir un ami pleurer from the album Les Marquises, a song that Jacques Brel didn’t have time to sing on stage after succumbing to illness. A breath of poetry and a true performance. Chills guaranteed!

Accompagné de 4 musiciens d’exception, il se donne à corps perdu pour épouser le rythme effréné de La Valse à mille temps, incarne avec fougue et élégance Ces gens-là, Les Vieux ou Les Bigotes. Olivier Laurent nous fait même redécouvrir Voir un ami pleurer issu de l’album Les Marquises, que Jacques Brel, emporté par la maladie, n’aura pas eu le temps de chanter sur scène. L’Ensemble ArtChoral at the Maison Symphonique

The ArtChoral Ensemble, under the direction of Matthias Maute, offers an immersive evening into the deep, complex world of human emotions. Leonard Cohen’s great hymn Hallelujah is the starting point for this journey through a vast choral repertoire spanning the centuries, which not only includes several “best of” works by this great Montreal chansonnier, but also timeless pages from the pens of composers such as Kurt Weill, Leonard Bernstein and Ernest Bloch. Through their haunting melodies and powerful, introspective lyrics, these artists have succeeded in expressing the deepest aspects of the human experience.

L’Ensemble ArtChoral sous la direction de Matthias Maute, vous propose une soirée immersive dans l’univers profond et complexe des émotions humaines. Le grand hymne Hallelujah de Leonard Cohen est le point de départ de ce voyage à travers un vaste répertoire choral au fil des siècles, qui non seulement inclut plusieurs « best of » de ce grand chansonnier de Montréal, mais aussi des pages éternelles de la plume de compositeurs tels que Kurt Weill, Leonard Bernstein et Ernest Bloch. Homayoun Shajarian and Anoushiravan Rohani at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier

Traditional Iranian singer, composer and fusion musician Homayoun Shajarian brings his concert The Color of Voice to Montreal. Also featuring the Siavosh Orchestra, this show promises to showcase the unrivalled talent of one of Iran’s most celebrated musicians.

The concert will also be honored by the presence of the distinguished Anoushiravan Rohani as special guest. An Iranian composer and pianist, Rohani was born in Rasht, Iran, in 1939. What sets Rohani apart is his remarkable success beyond Iran, where he is esteemed in international musical circles. His work in the light classical genre serves as a bridge between Eastern and Western musical traditions.

Le chanteur, compositeur et musicien de fusion traditionnel iranien, Homayoun Shajarian, présente son concert La couleur de la voix à Montréal. Mettant également en vedette l’Orchestre Siavosh, ce spectacle promet de mettre en valeur le talent inégalé de l’un des musiciens les plus célèbres d’Iran. 

Ce concert sera en outre honoré par la présence du distingué Anoushiravan Rohani en tant qu’invité spécial. Compositeur et pianiste iranien, Rohani est né à Rasht, en Iran, en 1939. Ce qui distingue Rohani, c’est son succès remarquable au-delà de l’Iran, où il est estimé dans les cercles musicaux internationaux. Son travail dans le genre du classique léger sert de pont entre les traditions musicales orientales et occidentales.
