Fauré and Duruflé, Two Requiems at Maison symphonique

At the head of the choir and orchestra, Bernard Labadie brings out the full splendor of two great choral masterpieces. Fauré’s Requiem is bathed in a soothing, comforting light. Ced Auger and Jace Full Band at National

Singer-songwriter Ced Auger (Cédric Auger) was born on February 12, 1992, in Hull, Quebec. Today, he is an emerging artist whose talents in all facets of musical creation are recognized and appreciated by an ever-widening audience. The son of a musician, he took up the guitar at an early age and soon discovered a distinctive voice that he developed and perfected over the years. Under the pseudonym “Elmaniak”. He produced several songs that marked his era in Quebec rap: ”J’ai Mal” , ”Te souviens tu” , ”Mélodie” to name but a few. He has toured Quebec and performed on stage with a number of well-known artists, including Manu Militari, Sans Pression, Rymz and Souldia.

Auteur-Compositeur-Interprète, originaire de Hull au Québec, Ced Auger (Cédric Auger) est né le 12 Février 1992. C’est aujourd’hui un artiste émergent dont les talents dans toutes les facettes de la création musicale sont aujourd’hui reconnus et appréciés d’un public de plus en plus large.    Fils de musicien, il se met très jeune à la guitare et se découvre rapidement une voix particulière qu’il développe et perfectionne au fil des années. Sous le pseudonyme « Elmaniak ». Il produit plusieurs chansons qui ont marqués son époques dans le rap Québécois donc ‘’ J’ai Mal ‘’ , ‘’Te souviens tu ‘’ , ‘’Mélodie ‘’ pour nommer que ceux-ci.  Il a fait le tour du Québec et a performer sur scène avec plusieurs artiste reconnu du milieu donc Manu Militari, Sans Pression, Rymz, Souldia.

Prana – Music of Breaths at Agora Hydro-Québec

This concert offers a deeply emotional, spiritual and immersive experience, with four voices and four trombones encircling the audience. With their breaths and sounds, the performers explore the body’s seven yogic chakras in unison, translating them into meditative sound exercises and rituals.

Let yourself be swept away on an inner journey through wandering harmonies and uplifted by transcendent melodies.

Prana is originally a piece for four trombones composed in 2020 during the pandemic by Sandeep Bhagwati, whose work is at the heart of the SMCQ Tribute Series. Although each was located in a different city, the four trombonists had been able to play with a common breath, thanks to the breathing exercises of this long comprovisation. Later, in 2022, Bhagwati wrote a piece to accompany Prana, entitled Music of Breaths, this time for four a cappella voices. What these two compositions have in common is their exploration of breath and the sounds it can produce. On this evening, these two works will be intertwined, superimposed and fused into a great musical flow that will open up new perspectives in the way you breathe and listen.

Ce concert vous propose une expérience profondément émotionnelle, spirituelle et immersive avec quatre voix et quatre trombones encerclant le public. Avec leurs respirations et leurs sonorités, les interprètes explorent à l’unisson les sept chakras yogiques du corps qu’ils traduisent en exercices sonores méditatifs et en rituels.

Laissez-vous emporter par un voyage intérieur à travers des harmonies vagabondes et élevez-vous avec des mélodies transcendantes.

À l’origine, Prana est une pièce pour quatre trombones composée en 2020 pendant la pandémie par Sandeep Bhagwati, dont l’œuvre est au cœur de la Série Hommage de la SMCQ. Bien qu’étant chacun localisés dans une ville différente, les quatre trombonistes avaient pu jouer d’un souffle commun, grâce aux exercices de respiration de cette longue comprovisation. Par la suite, en 2022, Bhagwati a écrit une pièce pour accompagner Prana, intitulée Music of Breaths, écrite cette fois pour quatre voix a cappella. Ces deux compositions ont en commun d’explorer le souffle et les sons qu’il peuvent produire. Lors de cette soirée, ces deux œuvres seront entremêlées, superposées, fondues en un grand flux musical qui ouvrira de nouvelles perspectives dans votre manière de respirer et d’écouter.

L’être et la nature – Gabriel Trottier at Espace Kendergi

Montreal horn player Gabriel Trottier presents a recital for horn and electronics inspired by nature and the human being, featuring arrangements, adaptations and comprovisations of works by Sandeep Bhagwati.

In this concert, the virtuoso musician shares some of his common inspirations with the composer, notably their interests in interdisciplinarity (multimedia, poetry), innovation and improvisation.

Archipelago begins by transporting you into the sonic universe of Quebec City’s Old Port, sailing to the sound of waves and port activities, with an excerpt from the poem Nipinapunan by aboriginal writer Alexis Vollant. Next, Sutra takes you on a journey to India, with sound recordings of its major cities blending with the sound of the horn. Two other pieces complete the program: Stele IV pays spatial tribute to German director Jürgen Gosch, and Exercices in Estrangement II “L’Animal que donc je suis” highlights the relationship between humans and nature. With this recital, Gabriel Trottier and Sandeep Bhagwati highlight the horn in a contemporary context, while perpetuating the intrinsic link between nature and this instrument whose ancestors include the conch shell, the olifant and the hunting horn.

Le corniste montréalais Gabriel Trottier présente un récital pour cor et électronique inspiré par la nature et l’être humain autour d’arrangements, adaptations et comprovisations d’œuvres de Sandeep Bhagwati.

Dans ce concert, le musicien virtuose partage quelques-unes des inspirations communes avec le compositeur, notamment leurs intérêts pour l’interdisciplinarité (multimédia, poésie), l’innovation et l’improvisation.

L’œuvre Archipelago vous emportera d’abord dans l’univers sonore du Vieux-Port de Québec, voguant au son des vagues et des activités portuaires, avec en filigrane un extrait du poème Nipinapunan de l’écrivain autochtone Alexis Vollant. Ensuite, Sutra, vous fera voyager en Inde à partir d’enregistrements sonores de ses grandes villes dans lesquels se fond le son du cor. Deux autres pièces complètent le programme, Stele IV rend un hommage spatialisé au metteur en scène allemand Jürgen Gosch et l’autre Exercices in Estrangement II «L’Animal que donc je suis» met en exergue la relation entre les humains et la nature. Marie Céleste at Sala Rossa

Hailing from Alma, Lac-Saint-Jean, Marie Céleste is a band that blends folk, rock, jazz and alternative influences. With their zany arrangements, gigahit vocal harmonies and over-the-top lyrics, this quintet is undeniably music to listen to with your ears. The ensemble is made up of Simon Duchesne (guitars, vocals), Philippe Plourde (keyboard, vocals) and Zachary Tremblay (guitars).

Originaire d’Alma, au Lac-Saint-Jean, Marie Céleste est un groupe qui mélange des influences folk, rock, jazz et alternatives. Avec ses arrangements carrément zinzins, ses harmonies vocales giga-huppées et ses paroles trop chouettes, ce quintette joue indéniablement de la musique qui s’écoute avec des oreilles. L’ensemble est composé de Simon Duchesne (guitares, voix), Philippe Plourde (clavier, voix) et  Zachary Tremblay (guitares).

The Orchestre classique de Montréal and Tara-Louise Montour at Salle Pierre-Mercure

Experience a transformative journey through the human experience. The MCO welcomes back Mohawk violinist Tara-Louise Montour for the North American premiere of Montreal composer Louis Babin’s Phoenix, a violin concerto that embodies the strength and optimism of new beginnings. Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) takes us on an emotionally charged journey.

Based on Canadian folklore, Quebec composer Clermont Pépin’s ballet L’Oiseau Phénix (The Phoenix Bird) tells the story of a devoted son whose loyalty is rewarded by two metamorphoses: that of a phoenix into a beautiful fiancée, and that of a young man into an adult. One of Janáček’s first compositions for strings, a return to the unchanging essence of beauty, completes the program.

Vivez une traversée transformatrice de l’expérience humaine. L’OCM accueille à nouveau la violoniste mohawk Tara-Louise Montour à l’occasion de la première nord-américaine de Phœnix, du compositeur montréalais Louis Babin, concerto de violon qui incarne la force et l’optimisme propres aux nouveaux départs. Verklärte Nacht (La nuit transfigurée) de Schoenberg propose pour sa part un voyage marquant, chargé d’émotions.

S’appuyant sur le folklore canadien, le ballet L’Oiseau Phénix du compositeur québécois Clermont Pépin raconte l’histoire d’un fils dévoué, récompensé pour sa fidélité par deux métamorphoses : celle d’un phénix en magnifique fiancée, et celle d’un jeune en adulte. L’une des premières compositions pour cordes de Janáček, retour à l’essence immuable de la beauté, complète le programme.

Symphonic Piano: Kevin Chen at Salle Pierre-Mercure

Born in 2005, pianist Kevin Chen won first prize in the Canadian Music Competition and first prize in the Royal Conservatory of Music’s ARCT examination at the age of 8. At age 9, he was recognized by CBC as one of “Canada’s 30 Most Promising Classical Musicians Under 30” and as one of “100 Outstanding Canadians” by Maclean’s.

He attracts international attention with a string of first prizes: Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition (2023), Geneva Competition (2022), Franz Liszt International Piano Competition (2021), where he is the youngest ever competitor and winner, and Mozart International Piano Competition (2020).

At 18, Kevin Chen is also an accomplished composer, with over a hundred works to his credit, including a piano concerto and four complete symphonies for orchestra.

Né en 2005, Kevin Chen, pianiste, remporte, à 8 ans, le premier prix au Concours de musique du Canada et le premier prix à l’examen ARCT du Royal Conservatory of Music. À 9 ans, il est reconnu par la CBC comme l’un des «30 musiciens classiques canadiens les plus prometteurs de moins de 30 ans « et comme l’un des « 100 Canadiens remarquables » par le Maclean’s. 

Il retient l’attention sur la scène internationale en enchaînant les premiers prix: Concours international de piano Arthur Rubinstein (2023), Concours de Genève (2022), Concours international de piano Franz Liszt (2021), où il est le plus jeune concurrent et lauréat de l’histoire, ainsi que Concours international de piano Mozart (2020).

À 18 ans, Kevin Chen est aussi un compositeur accompli, avec plus d’une centaine d’œuvres à son actif, notamment un concerto pour piano et quatre symphonies complètes pour orchestre.

Night Lovell at Club Soda

Canadian rapper/producer Night Lovell embraced a dark and mysterious style from the start, working with tense beats and haunting vocal samples. His lyrics skewed toward darkness and pain on much of his work, resulting in a viral hit with his first single and huge fanfare for his brooding full-length releases like 2016’s Red Teenage Melody.

Le rappeur et producteur canadien Night Lovell a adopté un style sombre et mystérieux dès le début, travaillant avec des rythmes tendus et des échantillons vocaux obsédants. Ses textes sont souvent empreints de noirceur et de douleur, ce qui lui a valu un succès viral avec son premier single et une grande fanfare pour ses albums complets, comme Red Teenage Melody en 2016.
