Novo Amor, c’est Ali Lacey. Il vit à Cardiff, dans une maison qui est à la fois une maison et un studio, un endroit où le bavardage lointain d’une fête de l’autre côté de la rue, les feux d’artifice et les mouettes qui se rassemblent sur le chantier de construction d’à côté se reflètent dans ses enregistrements.
Il a commencé Novo Amor comme une sorte de projet – un acte de défi à la suite d’une rupture, mais en cours de route, de manière tout à fait inattendue, il a trouvé quelque chose de riche et de gratifiant. Il y a des années, un été passé au bord d’un lac entouré de conifères dans le nord de l’État de New York a fourni à la fois l’impulsion et l’imagerie qu’il allait utiliser pour créer son premier album Birthplace (2018).
Novo Amor is Ali Lacey. He lives in Cardiff, in a house that’s part-home, part-studio, a place where the distant chatter of a party across the street, fireworks and the seagulls that congregate on the building site next door bleed into his recordings.
He began Novo Amor as a project of sorts – an act of defiance in the wake of a break-up, but along the way, quite unexpectedly, he found something rich and rewarding. Years ago, a summer spent by an evergreen-surrounded lake in upstate New York supplied both the impetus and imagery that he would use to craft his debut album Birthplace (2018).
