Known for his work with singers Bilal, Brittainy Howard, and as part of Nate Smith\u2019s Kinfolk band, <em>\u0153conomy<\/em> sees brad allen williams staking his claim as an independent artist.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"an artifice\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8VCoggYOZCU?list=PLWayXVr0ASXenDot19FjgccKmkAQFdwky\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The impetus for the album lies in williams\u2019 commitment to take guitar music to new places, an ambitious goal when the instrument\u2019s potential seems to have been all but exhausted. williams then uses the guitar\u2019s very unoriginality as a point of reference in making a sort of postmodernist work that relishes in intertextuality, allusion and simply having fun. In williams\u2019 own words, \u201cself-conscious avoidance of all the electric guitar\u2019s accumulated cultural baggage sometimes feels reflexive, and I found myself doing a lot of it during the making of this album.\u201d<em> <\/em>The result then is an album that treads some truly wild ground, but what ultimately holds this work together is williams\u2019 love for guitar heroism and knack for experimentalism.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u0153conomy <\/em>was composed in the studio, and although it could be my hindsight bias speaking, the compositions here feel suitably fresh, with a real improvisatory and exploratory spirit which runs the course of neoclassical, electronica, psychedelia, bossa, exotica, and jazz streams. Mark Giuliana, in fine form as always, brings a broad dynamic range to the drums on which he is featured. Especially lovely are the lush string arrangements that williams himself scored, and Pete Min\u2019s production is crisp, clean and well balanced considering all the elements present. While the aesthetic of <em>\u0153conomy <\/em>may give an air of heady esotericism, the soundscapes are accessible enough with moments of challenge that make for a rewarding and compelling listen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=840327617\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" seamless><a href=\"https:\/\/bradallenwilliams.bandcamp.com\/album\/conomy\">\u0153conomy by Brad Allen Williams<\/a><\/iframe>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Colorfield Records inaugurate the year 2023 in style with another eclectic release, this time around from guitarist\/composer brad allen williams.
