Dark and silky, a little grainy with the right amount of life in her interpretations of visceral songs that flatter your subcutaneous tissue effectively (<em>It&#8217;s Not That Easy<\/em> by Reuben Bell, <em>Blackbird <\/em>by Nina Simone, <em>Fix It<\/em> by Bill Evans, <em>Beware of the Stranger<\/em> by Eugene Dixon, etc.).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Lady Blackbird - It&#039;s Not That Easy (Official Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bruUZblAs8U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The title <em>Black Acid Soul<\/em> would suggest readings borrowed from 1970s Miles, or from the acid jazz trend that abounded around the 2000s. Even perhaps Afro-futurism or certain adventures of Nicholas Payton. But in truth, it&#8217;s much more classic than that. Lady Blackbird&#8217;s fabulous voice is wrapped delicately, but not sparingly, by Deron Johnson&#8217;s keyboards and Johnny Flaugher&#8217;s double bass, and that&#8217;s about it. Lady allows herself a bit of grandiosity towards the end of the album, in <em>Beware The Stranger<\/em> and <em>Black Acid Soul<\/em>, which are propelled to an uplifting catharsis by gospel-like choirs. The acid suggested is in the effect of this music on the listener rather than in the sounds of the music-making.
