Discos Pac\u00edfico is the recent Cali-based offshoot imprint of the Bogot\u00e1 label Llorona, a 15-year-old platform for quality Colombian roots music old and new. Diego G\u00f3mez, a producer and DJ under the moniker Cerrero, oversees both. Though his stage name, in translation, suggests the rough, raw, and wild, his single with the leaders of Tumaco band Bujeco fits the \u201cpacific\u201d descriptor, and not just because the label, artists and sounds are based on Colombia\u2019s west coast. \u201cChureito en la ma\u00f1ana\u201d is a comfortably haunting slice of electronic dub, a patient, cushioned cumbia groove that carries the chureo, a short, cycling vocal refrain\u2014often a lament, certainly so in this case. Two additional dub versions follow on the EP, each even more misty and narcotic. This single precedes a busy autumn for G\u00f3mez and his new label, promising remixes of Bujeco and fellow signees Semblanzas del R\u00edo Guapi, prior to Cerrero gigs in the U.S. (on the Pacific coast… of course).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
