Apart from some noise and industrial sounds, The \u201cOctogonal Stairway\u201d, \u201cThe Cavalry\u201d and \u201cCameraman\u201d are the typical Pig Destroyer: a barrage of chunky riffs and furious drumming accompanied by J.R. Hayes&#8217; borborygmus. From \u201cNews Channel 6\u201d, on which the singer recites the an apocalyptic news bulletin in a robotic voice (\u201cNew Orleans is underwater \/ Los Angeles is on fire \/ New York is under attack \/ Be ashamed that everything that ever happened is your fault\u201d), we\u2019re in experimental and drone territory. The incursion recalls the <em>Natasha<\/em> EP (2008) and has a tribal and introspective side that represents the adventurous dimension of Pig Destroyer well. <em>The Octogonal Stairway<\/em> meets expectations, while leaving us with an appetite. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Readers of <em>Decibel<\/em> magazine will have noticed that the song \u201cThe Cavalry\u201d, named for the participation of drummer Igor Cavalera (ex-Sepultura, Cavalera Conspiracy), was released in February 2019 in flexi-disc format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 350px; height: 654px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=1795654617\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/transparent=true\/\" seamless=\"\"><a href=\"http:\/\/pigdestroyer.bandcamp.com\/album\/the-octagonal-stairway\">The Octagonal Stairway by Pig Destroyer<\/a><\/iframe>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guitarist Scott Hull and his band are better known and appreciated for their virulent grindcore than for their sound experiments, and that\u2019s what they offer us on their 26-minute EP.
