I&#8217;m thinking of \u201cLacquer\u201d, \u201cVanishers\u201d (which includes a duet with singer Anni Bernhard from rock band Full of Keys), \u201cLachesis\u201d, \u201cUntrodden\u201d, and the beginning of \u201cHeart Set To Divide\u201d. These slow, soft and introspective stretches exude such an aura of gloom that it occludes the better moments, such as the resurgence of Katatonia&#8217;s metal side on \u201cBehind the Blood\u201d, \u201cCity Glaciers\u201d, and \u201cRein\u201d, to a certain extent. It must also be said that since forming in 1991, Katatonia hasn&#8217;t been afraid to make several transitions, gradually moving away from black, death and doom influences to adopt a metal and then progressive rock sound. As a result, fans of the albums <em>Night Is the New Day<\/em> (2009), <em>Dead End Kings<\/em> (2012) and <em>The Fall of Hearts<\/em> (2016) will find their share of ethereal moments on the new efort from guitarist Anders Nystr\u00f6m and singer Jonas Renkse, the founders and composers of Katatonia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since their summer concerts were cancelled due to COVID-19, Katatonia is <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blackbox.solidtango.com\/live\/katatonia-live-from-studio-grondahl\" target=\"_blank\">offering a live performance<\/a> from the Gr\u00f6ndahl studio in Sweden. The set will include three songs from <em>City Burials<\/em>.
