That\u2019s the room Girl Ultra&#8217;s <em>RRRomeo<\/em> builds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Girl Ultra has shed the bedroom-R&amp;B skin. The eight tracks trade her DIY roots for a darker, freer pop terrain of chrome-plated synths, analog funk, distorted guitars and dub textures. Chromeo co-produced, and the record reads like a love letter written in Spanish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The guest list is a cast of ghosts and accomplices: Buscabulla on \u201cMentirasmentiras,\u201d Chromeo on \u201cIron\u00eda,\u201d (my personal favourite, especially with that falsetto), Jean Tonique on \u201cRamera,\u201d Empress Of on \u201cTom\u00e1s.\u201d Then there\u2019s \u201cDenisse,\u201d the lead single, a dub-reggae-leaning mid-tempo about immortalizing a platonic love you\u2019ve since outgrown. It&#8217;s a short and sweet record, but it sure left me wanting more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: RRRomeo\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/2tKRKPfHSnY9gXUbO7dO2F?si=THbi4QJ_ScOPvSCahwwoOg&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s Mexico City after midnight, the neon sweating, a bass line pacing the hallway like it owes an apology.
