He is a trombonist and singer, which gives him a resemblance to the Swede Nils Landgren. A comparison that is pretty positive. <em>Heart of Hearts <\/em>is a program of eleven pieces, including eight original compositions for various formats, from quartet to large jazz orchestra. Berndt gives them pleasant outfits, sometimes swing, sometimes cha-cha-cha, elsewhere pop and samba. Berndt&#8217;s arrangements are generous, sunny, and soaked in optimism. He has enlisted a fine ensemble of seasoned musicians from the Ottawa scene, and the result is convincing, albeit in a fairly well-trodden register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Some gems of 1970s pop resurface in successful arrangements, on par with the rest of the program:<em> I Saw the Light <\/em>(Todd Rundgren),<em> Baby I Love Your Way<\/em> (Peter Frampton), and<em> Colour My World <\/em>(James Pankow &#8211; Chicago).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Heart of Hearts <\/em>offers itself without pretension for your friendly afterhours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 400px; height: 472px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=989762177\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" seamless><a href=\"https:\/\/steveberndt.bandcamp.com\/album\/heart-of-hearts\">Heart Of Hearts de Steve Berndt<\/a><\/iframe>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Steve Berndt comes to us from Ottawa.
