This Austin four-piece has crafted a debut that feels less like an introduction and more like a threat: 11 tracks of machine-gun riffs, pummeling drums, and vocals that seethe with the kind of rage that can&#8217;t be faked. The album opener, &#8220;Pop Punk Anthem (Sorry for the Delay),&#8221; is a middle finger disguised as a song title. There&#8217;s nothing apologetic about the way it tears through nearly four minutes of distortion-drenched chaos. It&#8217;s a bait-and-switch, calling itself &#8220;pop punk&#8221; and then delivering pure violence. &#8220;American Porn&#8221; drags you through the filth of cultural decay with the subtlety of a sledgehammer directly to your ear drums. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The production, courtesy of Will Yip (Turnstile, Title Fight), is deliberately oppressive as every guitar scrapes, every drum hit lands like a body blow, and the vocals\u2014split between members, Chloe de St. Aubin, Ellie Livingston, and Ava Schrobilgen, while Kate Halter crushes the bass guitar\u2014shift between raw howls and barely controlled fury. At 34 minutes, <em>Something to Consume<\/em> doesn&#8217;t overstay its welcome.
