The Armed have never been a band content with standing still, and their latest offering proves they’re still pushing hardcore punk into thrilling, unpredictable territory. THE FUTURE IS HERE AND EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE DESTROYED<\/em> is a visceral statement of intent, an album that matches its apocalyptic title with an unrelenting sonic assault that never really loses its sense of purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the opening moments of “Well Made Play,” the Detroit collective establishes an atmosphere of beautiful destruction. The production is characteristically dense and layered, with the band’s signature wall-of-sound hardcore punk approach creating a maximalist texture that rewards repeated listens. What could easily descend into noise instead reveals itself as meticulously crafted chaos, like “Kingbreaker,” where every distorted guitar line, pummeling drum hit, and squealing saxophone push serve the song. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Armed’s genius has always been their ability to smuggle genuinely catchy melodies into their abrasive framework, and that talent is on full display during a song like “Broken Mirror (feat. Prostitute),” which has this cannibalizing energy to it from the experimental synth lines to monolithic drum fills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One song that kind of loses me is the very poppy “Sharp Teeth,” which has an identity crisis as being an indie pop track, fusing with East Coast hardcore. Truly bizarre stuff. They go for this vibe again with the Strokes-y “I Steal What I Want.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE FUTURE IS HERE AND EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE DESTROYED<\/em> isn’t an easy listen, nor is it meant to be. It’s challenging, confrontational, and at times overwhelming, but for those willing to meet The Armed on their own terms, it’s an exhilarating thrill that showcases a band at the peak of their creative powers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
