Water From Your Eyes have never been an easy band to pin down, but with It\u2019s a Beautiful Place<\/em> they lean into that slipperiness like never before. Rachel Brown\u2019s coolly detached vocals skate across Nate Amos\u2019 restless production, which mutates from dance-punk throb to shoegaze haze to proggy spirals, sometimes all within the same track. The result is less an album than a hall of mirrors\u2014playful, unnerving, and oddly life-affirming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The record kicks off with a fake-out: \u201cOne Small Step\u201d feels like ambient filler, but it\u2019s actually a trap door. Within seconds, the floor drops into \u201cLife Signs,\u201d a propulsive, jagged groove that sets the tone for the record\u2019s jittery momentum. Brown delivers lines like \u201ctick, tick, you\u2019re alive\u201d with deadpan insistence, a mantra equal parts comic and existential. It\u2019s this tension\u2014between the absurd and the profound\u2014that powers the whole LP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
