Happy reading and listening!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Kenny Garrett&#8217;s first offering of 2024,<em> Who Killed AI?,<\/em> marks an exciting and unconventional venture for the now veteran saxophonist. Banding arms with producer Svoy, Garrett gives us his take on the timely theme of artificial intelligence&#8217;s role in creativity and society at large. But despite the weighty subject matter, he approaches it with some <em>chutzpah<\/em>. The opening of this album,&nbsp; \u2018Ascendance\u2019, epitomises the bold and playful spirit that runs its course here.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kenny Garrett &amp; Svoy - Ascendence (Official Audio)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AGxGn2TB9jg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Certainly the combination of electronic elements and jazz instrumentation is not for everyone and while Garrett&#8217;s saxophone performance is as inspired as ever, we can\u2019t let him entirely off the hook for some of the faux pas he commits here. The abstract jazz harmonies and sometimes downtempo, sometimes DnB inspired beats courtesy of Svoy do provide fertile ground for Garrett to soar over but nothing that results in something especially nourishing once the novelty has worn off.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kenny Garrett &amp; Svoy - My Funny Valentine (Official Audio)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/b8MICe5VD90?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Still, to take this album too critically would be to miss the point. With tracks like \u201cLadies\u201d and just about the oddest version of \u201cMy Funny Valentine\u201d you\u2019ve heard, this record simply seems an outlet for Garrett to try something new and one has to respect that.
