Inside it\u2019s a maze full of artist lofts, wayward businesses, and jam spaces. The hallways never seem to end and you can easily get lost in the space, as I did many times. After a bunch of rights and left turns, I open a door into a dimly lit studio. There are five musicians; two guitarists each with their own scattered pedal setup, one drummer, a bass player, and a vocalist standing near a synth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is La S\u00e9curit\u00e9, a new art-punk outfit made up of members from other projects such as Chose Sauvages, Laurence-Anne (who is one of the guitarists), Silver Dapple, DATES, and Jesuslesfilles. I later learn that the drummer, Kenny Smith, has his own whacky new wave meets post-artcore project, Pressure Pin (<a href=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/en\/records\/pressure-pin-superficial-feature\/\"><strong>read our review here.<\/strong><\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La S\u00e9curit\u00e9 is in the middle of rehearsing a couple of songs\u2014art post punk burners that sound a bit Blondie, Television, and Devo\u2014they have written while a man in a funky black and orange short sleeve shirt, Philippe Larocque of Mothland, runs around with a vintage handheld camera.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo he\u2019s filming us playing and then we are going to play it backward and that will be the video,\u201d says the bassist, F\u00e9lix B\u00e9lisle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\u2019s talking about the new DIY music video for \u201cTry Again,\u201d the second single, following up \u201cSuspens.\u201d This time, \u201cTry Again,\u201d is sung in English and led once again by vocalist\/synth player \u00c9liane Viens-Synnott.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/LaSecurite-StephanBoissonneault-3-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-71223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/LaSecurite-StephanBoissonneault-3-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/LaSecurite-StephanBoissonneault-3-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/LaSecurite-StephanBoissonneault-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/LaSecurite-StephanBoissonneault-3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/LaSecurite-StephanBoissonneault-3-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/LaSecurite-StephanBoissonneault-3-200x133.jpg 200w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/LaSecurite-StephanBoissonneault-3-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/LaSecurite-StephanBoissonneault-3-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/LaSecurite-StephanBoissonneault-3-scaled.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The song has a curious atmosphere to it with its jumpy backing noise-rock guitar, smooth bass, and a playful synth line, as cowbells, woodblocks, and motorik drum beats. Much like the first single \u201cSuspens,\u201d \u201cTry Again,\u201d is full of cryptic wordplay, kind of a patchwork of phrases about euphoria and paranoia all linking back to a theme of conquering failure. You could derive your own meaning, but Viens-Synnott admits the lyrics are quite random and spontaneous.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think I\u2019m used to writing in an abstract kind of poetic way. I\u2019d say writers like Jack Kerouac are an influence,\u201d she says. \u201cEventually everybody is going to jump on backing vocals though. That\u2019s the plan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La S\u00e9curit\u00e9 started when Viens-Synnott and B\u00e9lisle started making a few bass and synth demos on Abelton. Just check out their tongue-in-cheek Instagram stories that feature images of traffic pylons, exit signs, potholes, etc., all with the caption \u201cStay Safe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re kind of just in a period of experimenting with everything right now,\u201d Viens-Synnott says. \u201cI\u2019m not even sure how the live show setup is going to go and that\u2019s why we wanted songs in French and English. I\u2019m from the West so I want to be able to play things like Sled Island at some point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>La S\u00e9curit\u00e9\u2019s first show will be at Entrep\u00f4t 77 during Distorsion\u2019s second concert series of the year from July 22 \u2013 24.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The building is vast and the outside looks like an abandoned postal office.
