So when this once frenetic band, known for its irreverent, youthful energy, announced a return from its most recent four-year hiatus, with its members now in their mid-30s, many wondered if they would come back soft, quiet, tired, and perma-hungover as so many punk bands of the oughts have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Fortunately, I can say that after seeing Joyce Manor at Montreal\u2019s 2026 Warped Tour, this is not the case.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Despite being given a lacklustre slot around two in the afternoon, frontman Barry Johnson and his band brought an intense, focused energy to their Friday set. They smashed through songs new and old (but especially old, to the delight of most), rounding the bases on standout tracks from their discography like \u201cHeart Tattoo,\u201d \u201cFalling in Love Again,\u201d and \u201cConstant Headache.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/VansWarpedTour-joycema-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-163766\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/VansWarpedTour-joycema-2-scaled.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/VansWarpedTour-joycema-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/VansWarpedTour-joycema-2-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/VansWarpedTour-joycema-2-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Songs off their new album, <em>I Used to Go to This Bar<\/em> (2026, Epitaph Records), were sprinkled in as well, and they\u2019re plenty of fun as well. But by this point, the Torrance-born trio must know just how potent their back catalogue is for fans. Every familiar number cut straight through, with Johnson\u2019s rough yet deftly controlled voice giving me goosebumps and a sudden wellspring of angst from within, just like on those teenage nights when I\u2019d get high and play \u201cCatalina Fight Song\u201d over and over and over again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/VansWarpedTour-joycema-5-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-163764\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/VansWarpedTour-joycema-5-scaled.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/VansWarpedTour-joycema-5-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/VansWarpedTour-joycema-5-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/VansWarpedTour-joycema-5-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the heavy, hopeless tone of Joyce Manor\u2019s music, the band looks comfortable, confident, and grateful to be there.
