{"id":154938,"date":"2026-03-23T13:22:44","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T17:22:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panm360.com\/?post_type=gig_review&#038;p=154938"},"modified":"2026-03-23T14:36:59","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T18:36:59","slug":"vincent-khounis-accident-comes-to-life","status":"publish","type":"gig_review","link":"https:\/\/panm360.com\/en\/gig_review\/vincent-khounis-accident-comes-to-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Vincent Khouni\u2019s \u201cAccident\u201d Comes to Life"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">I slowly made my way to the Escogriffe for Vincent Khouni\u2019s release show for his new album \u201cAccident\u201d, my superstitions were high having just listened to his song about a bicycle accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MIf0JisbrJM?si=GQoxY_coeTV4EkXr\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Vincent Khouni\u2019s set started off with a low resonant drone, kicked off by the drummer\u2019s sampler, usually a good sign in any concert. It could have been the intro to a doom metal song, but instead the sunburst guitar fluttered through a series of classic indy chords. Instant dream. Submerged in hot groovy basslines, sprinkled over with the keyboardists soft sequences on a prophet. An age old recipe for success.<br>It was enticingly soft, and could carry you away into eternity if it wasn\u2019t counter-balanced with Khouni\u2019s soft-edge voice. He reminds of King Gizz\u2019s Stu Mackenzie, or the Oh Sees\u2019s John Dwyer; singing with a higher, nasal overtone, emphasizing drawn out vowels. In fact, the entirety of the experience had a sense of nostalgia drawing from mid 2010\u2019s psych and garage rock scene.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Around the middle of the last song, Vincent Khouni went full Kikagaku Moyo, diving off into the deep end of guitar solos where few find their way back.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">One of his pedals sent off waves of pitch modulation, which buried under a wall of delay, sounded more like a wailing siren than a guitar. Khouni looked in his element in these moments, drawing the large crowd\u2019s attention even further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">It worked well within Escogriffe\u2019s context, which historically has welcomed more indie bands than one could ever imagine, but I\u2019m curious to see how the band would perform given more space.
