{"id":141023,"date":"2025-07-04T18:23:36","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T22:23:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panm360.com\/gig_review\/fijm-une-fin-de-jeudi-avec-suuns\/"},"modified":"2025-07-07T10:58:15","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T14:58:15","slug":"fijm-une-fin-de-jeudi-avec-suuns","status":"publish","type":"gig_review","link":"https:\/\/panm360.com\/en\/gig_review\/fijm-une-fin-de-jeudi-avec-suuns\/","title":{"rendered":"FIJM | Thursday Ends With Suuns"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\"><strong>Montreal trio SUUNS was at Club Loto-Qu\u00e9bec on Thursday, July 3, as part of the Festival International de Jazz&#8217;s Nocturnes Loto-Qu\u00e9bec, a series of late-night, upbeat concerts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Ben Shemie, Liam O&#8217;Neill and Joseph Yarmush mastered their repertoire for the occasion, and presented us with an amalgam of cult and lesser-known songs in front of giant inflatable letters of their names and primary-colored lasers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">They opened with a bang, delving into their legendary album <em>Images du Futur with Music Won&#8217;t Save You<\/em>, to which they returned later in the program with &#8220;2020&#8221; and &#8220;Edie&#8217;s Dream,&#8221; each time to the cheers of a lively crowd well-versed in their repertoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">We were treated to selected tracks from their most recent album, <em>The Breaks<\/em>, as well as from <em>Felt<\/em> and <em>Zeroes<\/em> <em>QC<\/em>. It was really interesting to see how they managed to balance their different atmospheres live, seamlessly blending electro-clash with almost acoustic moments. We were also treated to extended progressions and moments of improvisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">At the end of the evening, Ben surprised us with a heartfelt reinterpretation of Offenbach&#8217;s &#8220;Faut que j&#8217;me pousse,&#8221; whose message seemed to resonate deeply with him.
