Throughout the course of the night, I found friends, familiar faces, and most importantly, some new favorite bands. Here are the highlights.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Photos by Amir Bakarov<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/fresh_wax_6.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-130357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/fresh_wax_6.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/fresh_wax_6-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/fresh_wax_6-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fresh Wax<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The standout act of the evening was <strong>Fresh Wax<\/strong>, a bass guitar-and-drum duo who showed up with sick sunglasses and a blasting energy that shook the paint off those primary-coloured planks on the Le Ritz walls. They ripped the wildest riffs in left-field time signatures and took turns on vocals, shouting punchy lines that I didn\u2019t understand and honestly, didn&#8217;t need to. The chops of both of these guys were up there with professional jazz musician levels of technique and fervour. I\u2018ve heard their shows get even wilder at smaller venues, so I will 100% be seeing them again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/gondola_13.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-130359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/gondola_13.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/gondola_13-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/gondola_13-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gondola<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Gondola<\/strong> was a pleasure as always, as I must confess I\u2019ve seen them at least five other times this year. This four-piece indie-pop group delivered a full range of dynamics and complementary solo moments, maintaining a tight cohesion balanced by moments of unrestrained jamming. Lyle on lead vocals was really sending it on this particular evening. His booming baritone carried melancholic lyrics with full force, evoking the bitterness of heartbreak with an edge of defiance. My favourite of the night was a newer song inspired by the reality show <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tlc.com\/shows\/milf-manor\">MILF Manor<\/a>, entitled \u201cMoment I\u2019d Like to Forget.\u201d I have yet to analyze these lyrics from a Freudian perspective, but boy, is it a catchy melody!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/wakelee_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-130361\" style=\"width:980px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/wakelee_1.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/wakelee_1-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/wakelee_1-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wakelee<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really vibed with <strong>Wakelee<\/strong>\u2019s set. Generally, I\u2019m skeptical of Brooklyn-made emo music in the year 2024 (if they were from a cultural hotbed like Central Pennsylvania or Ohio, perhaps I\u2019d be less prejudiced\u2026), but this set was tight, well-balanced, and totally won me over. I particularly loved how the backup vocals from the bass guitarist weaved into the main melody. These two-part vocals and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlasobscura.com\/articles\/i-made-a-linguistics-professor-listen-to-a-blink-182-song-and-analyze-the-accent\">the singer\u2019s unmistakable emo affectation<\/a> reminded me of the classic Blink-182 ballad \u201cI Miss You.\u201d I have since re-listened to their single \u201cmildlyinteresting,\u201d which succinctly captures the pathos of asking for advice on Reddit, confessing in its catchy refrain that \u201cevery question I have, I post on the Internet.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/room_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-130363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/room_2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/room_2-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/panm360.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/room_2-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Room<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">I wish I had caught more of the opening band, <strong>Room<\/strong>, which had all the powerhouse belting and radiant bubblegum rock energy of groups like Beach Bunny and Remember Sports. I caught two of their songs, probably the happiest music in an otherwise doomer-toned lineup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Lastly, I\u2019ve gotta give some credit to the headliner <strong>Evergreen<\/strong>. Noise-punk is not my specialty, and my ears couldn&#8217;t quite pick up on chords, melodies, or lyrics to comment on.
