Erik Ruin <\/strong>est un artiste aux multiples talents qui travaille sur diff\u00e9rents supports, notamment la gravure, les marionnettes d’ombre et l’art du papier d\u00e9coup\u00e9. Ses \u0153uvres ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crites par le New York Times comme des “animations de papier d\u00e9coup\u00e9 envo\u00fbtantes” et sont connues pour l’importance qu’elles accordent \u00e0 l’empathie, \u00e0 la transcendance et \u00e0 l’obsession du d\u00e9tail. Ruin<\/strong> collabore fr\u00e9quemment avec des musiciens, des artistes de th\u00e9\u00e2tre et d’autres artistes. Il est l’un des membres fondateurs de la coop\u00e9rative internationale d’artistes Justseeds. Le dernier projet de Ruin<\/strong>, Long\/Gone<\/strong>, est un morceau de papier d\u00e9coup\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re complexe qui mesure plus de 30 m\u00e8tres de long. L’\u0153uvre passe librement d’une image \u00e0 l’autre, avec des r\u00e9cits et des sc\u00e9narios qui s’inspirent souvent de la litt\u00e9rature classique, d’Hom\u00e8re \u00e0 Dante. En compl\u00e9ment de la performance, Damon Locks <\/strong>parlera de son art, de sa musique et de sa pratique \u00e9ducative et partagera deux projets d’animation issus de son travail au Stateville Correctional Center (une prison pour hommes \u00e0 s\u00e9curit\u00e9 maximale situ\u00e9e \u00e0 l’ext\u00e9rieur de Chicago), o\u00f9 les artistes incarc\u00e9r\u00e9s ont r\u00e9alis\u00e9 une s\u00e9rie d’animations abordant le th\u00e8me de la libert\u00e9 et du temps de leur point de vue, ainsi que les effets de la condamnation \u00e0 long terme sur leur vie.

Damon Locks <\/strong>est un artiste visuel, un \u00e9ducateur, un chanteur et un musicien bas\u00e9 \u00e0 Chicago. Il enseigne l’art dans le cadre du Prison and Neighborhood Arts\/Education Project au Stateville Correctional Center. Il enseigne l’improvisation dans le d\u00e9partement du son \u00e0 l’\u00e9cole de l’Institut d’art. Erik Ruin<\/strong> is a multi-talented artist who works in various mediums, including printmaking, shadow puppetry, and paper-cut art. His work has been described by the New York Times as “spell-binding cut-paper animations” and is known for its emphasis on empathy, transcendence, and obsessive detail. Ruin frequently collaborates with musicians, theater performers, and other artists and is a founding member of the international Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative. Ruin’s<\/strong> latest project, Long\/Gone, is a single intricately-cut piece of paper that measures over 100 feet in length. The piece flows freely from image to image, with narratives and scenarios that often draw from classic literature from Homer to Dante. Philly Voice has called it “stark, intricate and wondrous,” combining the enthralling fantasy of a storybook with the prismatic, fragmented beauty of a stained-glass window. For this performance, Ruin<\/strong> will be joined by musicians Andy Moor<\/strong>, Stefan Christof<\/strong>, and Ari Swann<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the performance, Damon Locks<\/strong> will be talking about his art, music, and education practice as well as sharing two animation projects from his work as Stateville Correctional Center (a maximum security men\u2019s prison outside of Chicago) where the incarcerated artists made a series of animations addressing the topic of freedom and time from their perspectives as well as the effects of long term sentencing on their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Damon Locks <\/strong>is a Chicago-based visual artist, educator, vocalist\/musician. He teaches art with the Prison and Neighborhood Arts\/Education Project at Stateville Correctional Center. He teaches improvisation in the Sound Department at the School of the Art Institute. Damon maybe best known as the leader of the group Black Monument Ensemble and as a founding member of Trenchmouth and The Eternals.
