Ava Mendoza<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ava Mendoza est une guitariste, chanteuse, autrice-compositrice et compositrice \u00e9tablie \u00e0 Brooklyn. Principalement reconnue pour ses performances en solo \u00e0 la guitare et \u00e0 la voix, ainsi que comme fondatrice du groupe de rock exp\u00e9rimental Unnatural Ways, elle est salu\u00e9e par la critique pour un jeu de guitare qui conjugue avec force virtuosit\u00e9 technique et impact visc\u00e9ral. Quel que soit le contexte, elle insuffle \u00e0 sa musique de l\u2019expressivit\u00e9, de l\u2019\u00e9nergie et d\u2019une vaste palette sonore. Mendoza s\u2019est produite en tourn\u00e9e aux \u00c9tats-Unis et en Europe. Ava Mendoza is a Brooklyn-based guitarist, singer, songwriter and composer. Best known for her solo guitar and vocal performances, and as the leader of the experimental rock band Unnatural Ways, she has received critical acclaim for her guitar work\u2019s compelling combination of technical virtuosity and visceral impact. In any context she is committed to bringing expressivity, energy and a wide sonic range to the music. Mendoza has toured throughout the U.S. and Europe and recorded\/performed with musicians including Carla Bozulich, Malcolm Mooney (CAN), Bill Orcutt, Abiodun Oyewole (Last Poets), Mike Watt, Adele Bertei, Mick Barr, William Hooker, Nels Cline, Matana Roberts, John Zorn, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Fred Frith, William Parker, Hamid Drake, John Zorn, ROVA, Negativland, the Violent Femmes, and members of Caroliner. Soledad Coyoli<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lx artiste sonore Soledad Coyoli a grandi entre les peintures surr\u00e9alistes de Leonora Carrington et Remedios Varo, les sculptures de sa grand-m\u00e8re, la Malinche, la Llorona, les pi\u00e8ces d\u00e9tach\u00e9es des robots que son oncle construisait et la musique sacr\u00e9e que son p\u00e8re \u00e9coutait. Son travail sonore s\u2019inspire de la tradition de la chanson mexicaine et latino am\u00e9ricaine, et s\u2019int\u00e9resse \u00e0 la rencontre entre diff\u00e9rentes voix \/ langues \/ cultures \/ technologies, ainsi qu\u2019aux racines identitaires n\u00e1huatl (son nom signie \u00ab clochette \u00bb en n\u00e1huatl). Sa musique, laur\u00e9ate de l\u2019UNESCO-ASCHBERG en 2014, a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e dans certains des centres culturels les plus importants du Mexique, tels que le MUAC (Mus\u00e9e Universitaire d\u2019art Contemporain), le mus\u00e9e Franz Mayer et le Centre de Culture num\u00e9rique \u00e0 la ville de Mexique. Soledad Coyoli grew up surrounded by the surrealist paintings of Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo, her grandmother\u2019s sculptures, La Malinche, La Llorona, the robot parts their uncle used to build, and the sacred music her father listened to. Their sound work draws inspiration from the tradition of Mexican \u2013 Latin American song and explores the intersection of different languages, cultures, and technologies, as well as their Nahuatl roots (their name means \u201cbell\u201d in Nahuatl). Their music, recipient of the Unesco-Aschberg bursary in 2014, has been presented at some of Mexico\u2019s most important cultural centers, such as the MUAC (University Museum of Contemporary Art), the Franz Mayer Museum, and the Center for Digital Culture in Mexico City. Since arriving in Tiohti\u00e1:ke\/Mooniyang\/Montr\u00e9al, their work has taken a new direction: the voice and the body as fluid, mysterious, mutable and collaborative materials. Soledad explores hybrid musical and bodily territories, in search of a root\u2014an identity\u2014a nepantla, a Nahuatl word often translated as \u201cthe land in the middle\u201d that they might call \u201chome.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acrostiche<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entre synth\u00e9tiseurs, \u00e9lectroniques, objets r\u00e9calcitrants et machines plus ou moins domestiqu\u00e9es, le duo Acrostiche (Belinda Campbell et Rapha\u00ebl Foisy-Couture) bricolent une musique de r\u00e9p\u00e9titions, de collisions et de tensions. Quelque part entre le jeu et le chantier, la pr\u00e9cision et le d\u00e9bordement, ils assemblent en temps r\u00e9el une m\u00e9canique sonore dont certaines pi\u00e8ces ont manifestement \u00e9t\u00e9 mont\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019envers. Mais \u00e7a tourne\u2026 Un album sortira d\u2019ailleurs quelque part en 2027. Campbell arrive avec une pratique pluri-(in)disciplinaire qui circule entre musique, performance et arts visuels; Foisy-Couture avec une longue fr\u00e9quentation de l\u2019improvisation, des d\u00e9tournements instrumentaux et des bidouillages en tous genres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using synthesizers, electronic devices, quirky objects, and machines that are more or less well-behaved, the duo Acrostiche (Belinda Campbell and Rapha\u00ebl Foisy-Couture) crafts music built on repetition, collisions, and tension. Somewhere between play and construction work, control and overflow, they build a sound machine in real time \u2014 one whose parts occasionally seem to have been installed the wrong way around. Somehow, though, it still runs. An album is also expected to emerge from the process sometime in 2027. Campbell brings a multi-(in)disciplinary practice that moves between music, performance, and visual arts; Foisy-Couture brings a long involvement in improvisation, instrument repurposing, and tinkering of all kinds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
