Caroline Davis is a Brooklyn-based saxophonist, composer, and activist, whose work is driven by a desire for connection and a belief in music\u2019s capacity to expand listeners\u2019 ears, minds, and hearts. A 2025 Guggenheim Fellow in Composition, she is the recipient of the DownBeat Critics Poll Alto Saxophone Rising Star Award, as well as fellowships from NYFA, the Jerome Foundation, Chamber Music America, and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. Her residencies include MacDowell, The Jazz Gallery, Civitella, and the Rockefeller Estate, and she has served as a mentor for New Music USA\u2019s Next Jazz Legacy program. Davis\u2019s work spans a wide range of creative contexts, rooted in improvisation and social inquiry. She has released eight albums as a leader and collaborated with artists such as Allison Miller, Lee Konitz, John Zorn, Angelica Sanchez, The Femme Jam, Miles Okazaki, Nicole Mitchell, Rajna Swaminathan, and Matt Mitchell. Her most recent release, Portals, explores themes of grief and memory, and she is also a contributor to Terri Lyne Carrington\u2019s New Standards, a landmark collection of jazz compositions by female-identifying composers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Helen Gillet est une compositrice-interpr\u00e8te, chanteuse et arch\u00e9ologue surr\u00e9aliste qui explore les sonorit\u00e9s synth\u00e9tiques, textures et rhytmes du violoncelle. Gillet a nottament re\u00e7u le prix Doris Duke Performance, New Orleans Best Contemporary Jazz et \u2018Best Female Performer\u2019 pour Gambit Best of The Beat et Offbeat Magazine\u2019s Best \u00ab Other Instrumentalist \u00bb & \u00ab Mixed Bag \u00bb, ainsi que deux fois pour Rising Star du Downbeat Magazine\u2019s Critic Poll. Gillet est n\u00e9e en Belgique et a grandi \u00e0 Singapour pendant 9 ans. R\u00e9sidant en Nouvelle-Orl\u00e9ans depuis 24 ans, elle a perform\u00e9 avec des musiciens de tout genres, allant de Jazz avant-gardiste, au classique, pop, folk et funk \u2013 Gillet a developp\u00e9 un style polyglotte et unique. Des rhythmes \u00e9mergent, des ostinatos jou\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019archet ou pizzicato, de la percussion jou\u00e9s avec des frottements et de claquements sur le corps m\u00eame du violoncelle; le tout compliment\u00e9 avec des m\u00e9lodies jou\u00e9es en voix lyrique du violoncelle ou chant\u00e9es avec sa voix alto envo\u00fbtant. Elle a perform\u00e9 pour nombreux festivals \u00e0 travers l\u2019Europe, l\u2019Australie et les \u00c9tats-Unis, en tant qu\u2019artiste solo, collaboratrice et \u00e9ducatrice d\u2019improvisation, expression et bouclage fluide, humaine et sans raccord. Gillet a produit pour d\u2019innombrables musiciens tout au long de sa carri\u00e8re et a sorti 14 albums de sa propre musique, et genres vari\u00e9s allant de jazz, progressif, \u00e9lectronique, folk, rock, punk, avec des groupes ou en format solo. Helen Gillet is a singer-songwriter and surrealist-archeologist exploring synthesized sounds, texture, and rhythm using an acoustic cello. Gillet is the recipient of the Doris Duke Performance Award, New Orleans Best Contemporary Jazz and best Female Performer from Gambit Best of The Beat awards and Offbeat Magazine\u2019s Best \u201cOther Instrumentalist\u201d and \u201cMixed Bag\u201d music and twice for Rising Star in Downbeat Magazine\u2019s Critic Poll. Gillet was born in Belgium, raised in Singapore for 9 years as a child. Over the past 23 years, living in New Orleans she has played with musicians of all stripes, from avant-garde jazz and classical to pop and funk \u2014 Gillet has developed a singular polyglot style. The core of her work is solo performance with live looping, layering cello parts and vocal lines. Rhythmic figures emerge with bowed or plucked ostinatos or a variety of rubbing and slapping on the body of the cello, then enhanced with melodies played or sung in her haunting alto. Gillet\u2019s solo performance with \u201cMy Pal Foot Foot\u201d is known for its enigmatic quality as she fabricates each song with innovative use of the cello and true mastery of live looping technology. She has performing in festivals across Europe, Australia, and The United States as a solo musician, collaborator and educator. Gillet has recorded for countless musicians throughout her career and has self published 14 albums of her own original music ranging from progressive jazz, electro folk rock and punk bands and solo singer-songwriting albums. Her latest album is called \u201cReBelle\u201d a Tribute to Belgian folk singer Julos Beaucarne and features a quintet of New Orleans musicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
