Chose s\u00fbre, Jeffrey Stonehouse, directeur artistique du Vivier, ne tarit pas d&#8217;\u00e9loges \u00e0 l&#8217;endroit de<em> Hide to Show<\/em>, de Michael Beil qu&#8217;ex\u00e9cutera l&#8217;ensemble flamand Nadar<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">&#8220;C&#8217;est un bijou, c\u2019est un must ! Je ne veux pas vendre tous les punchs parce qu&#8217;il faut&#8230; Mais c\u2019est une exp\u00e9rience \u00e0 ne pas manquer. On voit des musiciens qui se pr\u00e9parent pour une performance publique. Ils jouent quelques notes, ils changent de v\u00eatements, parfois ils dansent. Ils se pr\u00e9parent en \u00e9coutant de la musique avec&nbsp; des casques d\u2019\u00e9coute. Et ces mouvements deviennent en fait un mat\u00e9riau musical pour la suite qui s\u2019annonce tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressante. Ce programme a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u par Michael Beil et qui conf\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble belge Nadar un r\u00f4le qui est \u00e0 la fois musicien de tr\u00e8s haut niveau et aussi acteur. Alors la th\u00e9\u00e2tralit\u00e9 de cette proposition est tr\u00e8s, tr\u00e8s, tr\u00e8s forte ! En tout cas, ce spectacle m&#8217;a marqu\u00e9. Je l&#8217;ai vu \u00e0 Strasbourg une premi\u00e8re fois il y a deux ans, je m\u2019\u00e9tais dit que le public de Montr\u00e9al devait absolument assister \u00e0 ce show.&nbsp;&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Lisez les notes de programmes qui fournissent d&#8217;autres pr\u00e9cisions: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\"><em>Hide to show<\/em> parle de la solitude, mais aussi de la synchronisation avec les autres sans les voir; d\u2019\u00eatre observ\u00e9\u00b7e, de choisir de se rendre visible ou non, et de se remplacer soi-m\u00eame de multiples fa\u00e7ons. Les projecteurs se tournent vers les coulisses, tandis que les musicien\u00b7nes se pr\u00e9parent pour la performance devant le public, chacun\u00b7e seul\u00b7e dans sa petite pi\u00e8ce priv\u00e9e. Ils jouent quelques notes, changent de v\u00eatements ou dansent sur la musique qu\u2019ils \u00e9coutent au casque. Ce ne sont pas seulement les mouvements des musicien\u00b7nes sur sc\u00e8ne qui sont consid\u00e9r\u00e9s comme du mat\u00e9riau musical : la liste des ingr\u00e9dients artistiques de Beil inclut d\u00e9sormais leurs actions dans l\u2019intimit\u00e9 des coulisses. Mais tout ne nous est pas donn\u00e9 \u00e0 voir. Les musicien\u00b7nes se dissimulent derri\u00e8re leurs costumes, des rideaux qui montent et descendent, ou encore des enregistrements d\u2019eux-m\u00eames, si bien que la v\u00e9ritable personne demeure finalement invisible. Le parall\u00e8le avec les r\u00e9seaux sociaux s\u2019impose rapidement. One thing is certain: Jeffrey Stonehouse, artistic director of Le Vivier, is full of praise:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">&#8220;It&#8217;s a gem, it&#8217;s a must-see! I don&#8217;t want to give away all the surprises because you have to\u2026 But it&#8217;s an experience not to be missed. You see musicians preparing for a public performance. They play a few notes, they change clothes, sometimes they dance. They prepare themselves by listening to music with headphones. And these movements actually become musical material for what follows, which promises to be very interesting. This program was conceived by Michael Beil and gives the Belgian ensemble Nadar a role that is both highly skilled musicians and actors. So the theatricality of this proposal is very, very, very strong! In any case, this show made a big impression on me. I saw it for the first time in Strasbourg two years ago, and I thought to myself that the Montreal audience absolutely had to see this show. &#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Read the program notes for further details:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Hide to show speaks about solitude, but also about synchronizing with others without seeing them; about being observed, choosing to make oneself visible or not, and replacing oneself in multiple ways. The spotlights turn towards the backstage, while the musicians prepare for the performance in front of the audience, each alone in their small private room. They play a few notes, change clothes, or dance to the music they&#8217;re listening to on headphones. It&#8217;s not only the musicians&#8217; movements on stage that are considered musical material: Beil&#8217;s list of artistic ingredients now includes their actions in the privacy of backstage. But not everything is revealed to us. The musicians conceal themselves behind their costumes, curtains that rise and fall, or even recordings of themselves, so that the real person ultimately remains invisible. The parallel with social media quickly becomes apparent.
