Qu\u00e9bec Musiques Parall\u00e8les, l’\u00e9v\u00e9nement ambulant de musiques exploratoires et d\u2019art sonore et le Quatuor Bozzini proposent un programme pluriel \u00e0 la crois\u00e9e des cultures, en collaboration avec l\u2019artiste-compositeur Raven Chacon, les musiciens de E27 musiques nouvelles et l\u2019ensemble Okto\u00e9cho. La soir\u00e9e se d\u00e9cline en deux lieux, reli\u00e9s par une procession musicale.
Au c\u0153ur de l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement, des \u0153uvres de\u00a0Raven Chacon, artiste Din\u00e9 de la nation Navajo, reconnu pour ses \u0153uvres puissantes \u00e0 la crois\u00e9e de l\u2019art l\u2019exp\u00e9rimental et de l\u2019engagement politique. Chacon est laur\u00e9at du Prix Pulitzer 2022 pour\u00a0Voiceless Mass\u00a0qui lance le bal dans la magnifique Chapelle de la Cit\u00e9-des-Hospitali\u00e8res. En exploitant l\u2019architecture du lieu, l\u2019\u0153uvre interroge la futilit\u00e9 de donner une voix \u00e0 ceux qui n\u2019en ont pas, alors que c\u00e9der de l\u2019espace n\u2019est jamais une option pour ceux qui d\u00e9tiennent le pouvoir. Le septuor\u00a0Horse Notations, inspir\u00e9 d\u2019un article de 1874 intitul\u00e9 The Paces of the Horse (Les allures du cheval) \u2013 le pas, le trot, le galop et le galop rapide \u2013 comme source d\u2019inspiration pour les rythmes, les motifs de batterie, les pressions de l\u2019archet et les arcs de volume, cl\u00f4t cette premi\u00e8re partie.
C\u2019est au son de\u00a0Tiguex: VI \u2014 Downhill Procession (Procession I),\u00a0\u0153uvre bas\u00e9e sur un trac\u00e9 g\u00e9ographique pr\u00e9cis du lieu de performance, qu\u2019une fanfare de 8 musiciens rassembl\u00e9s pour l\u2019occasion nous guide quelques coins de rue plus loin pour une deuxi\u00e8me partie intimiste d\u2019\u0153uvres de chambre de Raven Chacon. On y entendra ses deux quatuors \u00e0 cordes,\u00a0Double Weaving\u00a0et\u00a0The Journey of the Horizontal People, ainsi que\u00a0(Bury Me) Where The Lightning [Will] Never Find Me, alors que les musiciens chevronn\u00e9s\u00a0Noam Bierstone\u00a0(percussions) et\u00a0Allison Burik\u00a0(clarinette basse) se joignent au\u00a0Quatuor Bozzini.
En troisi\u00e8me partie \u00e0 La Chapelle, sc\u00e8nes contemporaines, l\u2019ensemble\u00a0Okto\u00e9cho\u00a0et les musiciens de\u00a0E27 musiques nouvelles\u00a0pr\u00e9sentent la cr\u00e9ation montr\u00e9alaise de\u00a0\u00c9cliptique\u00a0(2025) de la compositrice\u00a0Katia Makdissi-Warren. En fusionnant chants de gorge inuit (katajjaq), percussions, fl\u00fbtes et clarinettes, cette \u0153uvre propose une rencontre in\u00e9dite entre les traditions musicales du nord et du sud, de l\u2019est et de l\u2019ouest.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Qu\u00e9bec Musiques Parall\u00e8les, the traveling event of exploratory music and sound art, and the Quatuor Bozzini present a plural program at the crossroads of cultures, in collaboration with composer-artist Raven Chacon, the musicians of E27 musiques nouvelles, and the ensemble Okto\u00e9cho. The evening unfolds across two venues, connected by a musical procession.
At the heart of the event are works by Raven Chacon, a Din\u00e9 artist from the Navajo Nation, renowned for his powerful pieces at the intersection of experimental art and political engagement. Chacon is the 2022 Pulitzer Prize winner for Voiceless Mass, which opens the evening in the magnificent Chapelle de la Cit\u00e9-des-Hospitali\u00e8res. By exploiting the architecture of the space, the work questions the futility of giving a voice to those who have none, when relinquishing space is never an option for those who hold power. The septet Horse Notations, inspired by an 1874 article entitled The Paces of the Horse\u2014walk, trot, canter, and gallop\u2014as a source for rhythms, drum patterns, bow pressures, and arcs of volume, closes this first part.
It is to the sound of Tiguex: VI \u2014 Downhill Procession (Procession I), a work based on a precise geographical tracing of the performance site, that a brass band of eight musicians assembled for the occasion guides us a few blocks away to a more intimate second part of chamber works by Raven Chacon. This includes his two string quartets, Double Weaving and The Journey of the Horizontal People, as well as (Bury Me) Where The Lightning [Will] Never Find Me, with seasoned musicians Noam Bierstone (percussion) and Allison Burik (bass clarinet) joining the Quatuor Bozzini.
The third part takes place at La Chapelle Sc\u00e8nes Contemporaines, where the ensemble Okto\u00e9cho and the musicians of E27 musiques nouvelles present the Montr\u00e9al premiere of \u00c9cliptique (2025) by composer Katia Makdissi-Warren. Blending Inuit throat singing (katajjaq), percussion, flutes, and clarinets, this work proposes an unprecedented encounter between musical traditions of the north and south, east and west.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
