Aidan Belo, musicien alt-folk bas\u00e9 \u00e0 Toronto, est un nostalgique. Non pas tant dans le sens o\u00f9 il pense que tout \u00e9tait mieux \u00e0 une \u00e9poque r\u00e9volue, mais dans le sens o\u00f9 il \u00e9prouve une profonde curiosit\u00e9 pour le pass\u00e9 et une sensibilit\u00e9 aigu\u00eb \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9trange et insondable myst\u00e8re que repr\u00e9sente le temps qui passe. Un mot portugais permet d\u2019expliquer cela : saudade. \u00ab C\u2019est le mot qu\u2019utilisaient les femmes de marins pour d\u00e9crire ce sentiment pendant que leurs maris \u00e9taient partis en mer \u00bb, explique M. Belo. \u201cIl n\u2019y a pas de traduction directe en anglais, mais c\u2019est comme un d\u00e9sir, une m\u00e9lancolie, une nostalgie, toutes ces choses r\u00e9unies. Je veux \u00e9voquer ce genre d\u2019\u00e9motions\u201d. Ainsi, lorsqu\u2019il a lanc\u00e9 son projet de folk alternatif et exp\u00e9rimental His His \u00e0 l\u2019automne 2020, il \u00e9tait naturel que le pass\u00e9 (et tous ses \u00e9l\u00e9ments constitutifs) soit un personnage, une esth\u00e9tique et un principe directeur du projet. Belo a construit un studio de fortune dans une vieille grange situ\u00e9e dans la ferme familiale de Schomberg, en Ontario, une minuscule communaut\u00e9 agricole situ\u00e9e \u00e0 une heure au nord de Toronto, o\u00f9 le p\u00e8re de Belo s\u2019est install\u00e9 apr\u00e8s avoir immigr\u00e9 du Portugal. Belo a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 enregistrer sur place \u00e0 l\u2019aide d\u2019un magn\u00e9tophone 4 pistes Tascam Portastudio et, au cours de l\u2019ann\u00e9e suivante, il a sorti une s\u00e9rie de singles et un premier EP, intitul\u00e9 Garden Songs, qui date de 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toronto-based alt-folk musician Aidan Belo is a nostalgic person. Not so much in the sense of thinking everything was better in some way-back-when, but in the sense of carrying a deep curiosity toward the past, and an acute tuning to the strange, unfathomable mystery that is time passing. There\u2019s a Portuguese word that helps to explain this: saudade. \u201cThat\u2019s what the wives of sailors would use to describe this feeling while their husbands were gone at sea,\u201d explains Belo. \u201cThere\u2019s no direct English translation but it\u2019s like longing, melancholy, nostalgia, all those things bundled up. I want to evoke those kinds of emotions.\u201d So when he started his alternative and experimental folk project His His in the fall of 2020, it was natural that the past (and all its constituent parts) was a character, an aesthetic, and a guiding principle of the project. Belo constructed a makeshift studio in an old barn located on his family\u2019s farm in Schomberg, Ontario, a tiny farming community an hour north of Toronto where Belo\u2019s father landed after immigrating from Portugal. Belo began recording there using a Tascam Portastudio 4-track cassette recorder, and over the next year, he released a string of singles and a debut EP, 2021\u2019s appropriately named Garden Songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wallgrin<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WALLGRIN est le projet artistique exp\u00e9rimental pop de la compositrice, chanteuse et violoniste Tegan Wahlgren, bas\u00e9e \u00e0 Vancouver. WALLGRIN is the experimental art-pop project of Vancouver-based composer, vocalist and violinist Tegan Wahlgren. Drawing from a background in Celtic fiddle and choral singing, Wallgrin\u2019s sound moves between lush string-based orchestration, beat-driven pop and ornate vocal arrangements After completing a degree in electroacoustic music composition, Wallgrin\u2019s songwriting defined itself: pop-adjacent but deviant, never afraid to experiment. From their 2018 debut \u2018Bird\/Alien\u2019, to their most recent album \u2018Yet Again The Wheel Turns\u2019, Wallgrin\u2019s world building has always revolved around fantastical and mythological imagery. Called \u201can innovative artist who is just starting to flex their myriad skills and talents\u201d by CBC Music, and a songwriter who \u201cmeasures up to standards set by art-pop visionaries like Bj\u00f6rk and Kate Bush\u201d (Northern Transmissions), their spirited and raw live performances have led them to perform at Iceland Airwaves (2023), The Great Escape (UK, 2023), Tallinn Music Week (Estonia, 2021), and FOCUS Wales (2021).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tachie Menson<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nia Blankson, d\u00e9sormais connue sous le nom de Tachie Menson, est une nouvelle artiste solo. Elle est pianiste classique de m\u00e9tier, mais sa musique originale pourrait \u00eatre class\u00e9e dans la cat\u00e9gorie R&B alternatif et indie. Nia Blankson, now under the moniker Tachie Menson, is a new solo artist. She is a classical pianist by trade, but her original music could be categorized as alternative R&B, and indie. She has begun developing her musical fingerprint with the release of her first single, \u201cAnother Day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avril Jensen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avril Jensen propose une musique indie pop planante et rocambolesque qui se situe \u00e0 l\u2019intersection de l\u2019acoustique et de l\u2019\u00e9lectro. En anglais comme en fran\u00e7ais, la jeune artiste fait de ses chansons de courtes histoires tant\u00f4t \u00e9mouvantes, tant\u00f4t d\u00e9sinvoltes. Son initiateur extrait intitul\u00e9 \u00ab Attends (feat. EXKY) \u00bb a vu le jour \u00e0 l\u2019automne 2021. Elle laissait para\u00eetre, en avril 2022 un premier EP en carri\u00e8re, \u00ab COLORS \u00bb (nomm\u00e9 au GAMIQ 2022 \/EP pop), refl\u00e9tant des exp\u00e9riences v\u00e9cues tout autant que des essais musicaux. Sa chanson \u00ab van gogh \u00bb lui permet de remporter le Prix de la Fondation SOCAN \u2013 jeune auteur-compositeur canadien. En octobre 2024, l\u2019artiste d\u00e9voile son premier album complet \u00ab Is Any of This Real? \u00bb. Ce premier opus est une immersion dans son monde, o\u00f9 elle d\u00e9cortique avec douceur et sensibilit\u00e9 tous les questionnements qui l\u2019habitent. Toujours en cr\u00e9ation, la jeune auteure-compositrice-interpr\u00e8te pr\u00e9sentera son premier EP francophone \u00e0 l\u2019automne. Avril Jensen\u2019s soaring, rocambolic indie pop music lies at the intersection of acoustic and electro. In both English and French, the young artist turns her songs into short stories, at times moving, at times flippant. Her first single, \u201cAttends (feat. EXKY)\u201d, was released in autumn 2021. In April 2022, she released her first career EP, \u201cCOLORS\u201d (nominated for a GAMIQ 2022 \/EP pop award), reflecting her experiences as much as her musical experiments. His song \u201cvan gogh\u201d wins him the Prix de la Fondation SOCAN \u2013 young Canadian songwriter. In October 2024, the artist unveils his first full-length album, \u201cIs Any of This Real? This first opus is an immersion in her world, in which she gently and sensitively explores all the questions that live within her. Still creating, the young singer-songwriter will present her first French EP in the autumn. With her soft, haunting voice, she sings about personal themes as much as invented stories: opening the doors to her immersive, inspiring universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
