Hand Habits, le projet de Meg Duffy (iel), musicien\u2022ne bas\u00e9\u2022e \u00e0 Los Angeles, a r\u00e9cemment sorti son nouvel album, Fun House \u2013 le plus ambitieux des albums de Hand Habits \u00e0 ce jour. Produit par Sasami Ashworth (SASAMI) et con\u00e7u par Kyle Thomas (King Tuff), l\u2019album n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u en r\u00e9action \u00e0 la pand\u00e9mie, mais suite \u00e0 un moment de pause difficile, bien que n\u00e9cessaire. Encourag\u00e9\u2022e par la th\u00e9rapie et incit\u00e9\u2022e par son producteur \u00e0 donner aux chansons des formes nouvelles et inattendues, le r\u00e9sultat est plus personnel et plus aventureux que tout ce qu\u2019on aura entendu de Hand Habits auparavant. Hand Habits, the project of Los Angeles-based musician Meg Duffy (they\/them), recently released their new album Fun House \u2013 the most ambitious Hand Habits album to date. Produced by Sasami Ashworth (SASAMI) and engineered by Kyle Thomas (King Tuff), the record was not intended as a reaction to the pandemic, but it was very much the result of taking a difficult, if much-needed, moment of pause. Emboldened by going into therapy and coaxed by Ashworth to push the songs into unexpected new shapes, the resulting music is more acutely personal and stylistically adventurous than anything you\u2019ve heard from Hand Habits before. The push\/pull of styles, paired with songs that move deftly between the present and past, give the record a wildly diverse, hall of mirrors quality that befits its name. Where previous Hand Habits records could be fairly insular affairs, Fun House feels ebullient, lush, a fully-realized conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanya Iyer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanya Iyer is an enigmatic songwriter whose sparkling, experimental pop music embraces mindfulness, aesthetic beauty, and the interconnectedness of all things. Iyer\u2019s 2025 release, TIDE\/TIED, expands on the future-folk of their 2020 Polaris long-listed album, KIND. With washes of jazz-inflected pop and ensemble ambience courtesy of Daniel G\u00e9linas\u2019 meditative drumming, Pompey\u2019s adventurous multi-instrumentalism, and the celestial harp of Emilie Kahn, Thanya Iyer builds a layered musical world that Pitchfork described as \u201ca lucid daydream that\u2019s constantly melting at its edges.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fashion Club<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fashion Club est le pseudonyme artistique de Pascal Stevenson, une artiste originaire de Los Angeles qui a initialement con\u00e7u ce projet alors qu\u2019elle \u00e9tait en tourn\u00e9e avec son groupe Moaning. \u00c9couter le deuxi\u00e8me album autoproduit de Fashion Club, A Love You Cannot Shake, donne l\u2019impression d\u2019\u00eatre pris dans le feu crois\u00e9 d\u2019un faisceau de lumi\u00e8re intense. On ne peut s\u2019emp\u00eacher de se sentir \u00e0 la fois revigor\u00e9 et expos\u00e9 lorsque ses lignes de synth\u00e9 aberrantes, ses cordes artistiques et ses guitares d\u00e9form\u00e9es s\u2019amplifient en crescendos plus grands que nature, \u00e9voquant un projecteur divin mais p\u00e9n\u00e9trant. Fashion Club is the recording alias of Los Angeles artist Pascal Stevenson, who originally conceived of the project while on tour with her band Moaning. Listening to Fashion Club\u2019s self-produced second album A Love You Cannot Shake feels like being caught in the crossfire of a profound beam of light. You can\u2019t help but feel both enlivened and exposed as its aberrant synth lines, artful strings and disfigured guitars swell into larger-than-life crescendos, which evoke a divine yet probing spotlight. You can bask in the glow of a towering light with self-assured poise, but there\u2019s also something inherently uncomfortable about an imposing light source\u2014revealing yourself to onlookers (and oneself) comes with varying levels of anxiety and self-doubt. This is the tension at the heart of A Love You Cannot Shake, a record of lush radiance and otherworldly scope, with each track functioning as its own twinkling, transportive realm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
