Officiellement form\u00e9 en 2006, Automelodi est en fait la suite logique de la d\u00e9marche \u00e9lectro-pop entam\u00e9e \u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 90 par Xavier Paradis sous le pseudonyme Arnaud Lazlaud. Paradis se pr\u00e9sente maintenant en formule solo mais a \u00e9galement travaill\u00e9 au fil des ann\u00e9es en compagnie de diff\u00e9rents collaborateurs, tels que Hayden Payne (Phase Fatale) ou Liz Wendelbo (Xeno & Oaklander), autant sur sc\u00e8ne qu’en studio. Souvent nomm\u00e9e Impossible Folk, la musique d\u2019Automelodi porte en sa base un m\u00e9lange d’influences du vingti\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, comme la po\u00e9sie d\u2019une Brigitte Fontaine r\u00e9cit\u00e9e sur de l’Italo-Disco d\u00e9sax\u00e9, ou alors au son de synth\u00e9s japonais trafiqu\u00e9s, dans un \u00e9change survolt\u00e9 au fond d\u2019un immeuble brutaliste d’Europe orientale. En r\u00e9alit\u00e9 (et malgr\u00e9 l\u2019usage d\u2019instruments dits “modernes”), Automelodi suit une trajectoire intemporelle situ\u00e9e en parall\u00e8le du discours technocentriste souvent associ\u00e9 \u00e0 la musique \u00e9lectronique. Apr\u00e8s un premier album \u00e9ponyme paru en 2010 sur le d\u00e9funt label new-yorkais Wierd Records, le deuxi\u00e8me microsillon, Surlendemains acides, paru \u00e0 l’origine en 2013, fut par la suite r\u00e9\u00e9dit\u00e9 par le label Holodeck Records. Une longue tourn\u00e9e europ\u00e9enne avait permis en 2019 de pr\u00e9senter le troisi\u00e8me album, Mirages au futur verre-bris\u00e9. Depuis 2020, Paradis partage son temps entre diff\u00e9rentes tourn\u00e9es, l’\u00e9criture de nouveau mat\u00e9riel pour Automelodi et des travaux de mixage et remix pour diff\u00e9rents artistes. Un nouvel EP intitul\u00e9 Cavallo doit para\u00eetre \u00e0 l’automne 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Formed in 2006, Automelodi is a constantly evolving project based around the solo work of songwriter\/producer Xavier Paradis. With a career that spans over two decades, Paradis is a well-established figure in Montreal\u2019s dense electronic music culture, releasing over time with various projects, performance line-ups, or under different monikers such as Arnaud Lazlaud. He also collaborates with artists like Liz Wendelbo (of Xeno & Oaklander) as the duo Liz and L\u00e1szl\u00f3, as well as Latvian Producer Dmitry Distant. Automelodi\u2019s music embraces and re-contextualizes a spectrum of influences that include the lesser-known European synthpop and post-punk of the latter Twentieth Century, combined with literary stylizations reminiscent of Gallic songwriters such as Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Fontaine\u2014with nearly all vocals delivered in French. Following the self-released first EP, an eponymous album was released in 2010 by the now defunct Brooklyn label Wierd Records. The second LP, “Surlendemains acides”, was released in digital format in 2013. A third LP, \u201cMirages au futur verre-bris\u00e9\u201d was released in 2019 on Austin’s Holodeck Records. The release was followed that same year by an extensive tour of Europe. Automelodi resumed touring in 2023, with several dates across the USA and is currently working on a collection of new songs, including an EP and some singles to be released in 2025. In parallel to his work as Automelodi, Paradis has also been very active over the past two decades as a music producer, focusing primarily on mixing and remixing for other projects and artists such as Bootblacks, Silent EM, The Harrow and Laura Krieg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
