Impr\u00e9gn\u00e9e d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ments du psych\u00e9d\u00e9lisme, compos\u00e9e autour de trames sonores \u00e9th\u00e9r\u00e9es et catapultant des rimes m\u00e9lodiques bien ac\u00e9r\u00e9es, la musique de Boutique Feelings (Montr\u00e9al, QC) invite \u00e0 la r\u00e9flexion quant aux normes socio-politiques tout en proposant une variante alternative du hip-hop. Plus commun\u00e9ment connu en tant que chanteur, clavi\u00e9riste et guitariste de l\u2019ensemble de psych rock progressif Atsuko Chiba, Karim Lakhdar continue ici d\u2019amalgamer les genres en alliant des composantes hip-hop, krautrock et \u00e9lectroacoustiques dans le cadre de son nouveau projet, Boutique Feelings. Contournant les m\u00e9thodes de composition traditionnelles, il explore des th\u00e8mes relatifs \u00e0 l\u2019identit\u00e9 culturelle et personnelle, offrant une narration loquace mais d\u00e9cal\u00e9e au fil de vers d\u2019oreille habilement satur\u00e9s. Lakhdar note que \u00ab la gen\u00e8se du projet d\u00e9coule d\u2019un amour pour le Hip-Hop et d\u2019influences allant d\u2019OutKast \u00e0 Madlib en passant par Kim Gordon et Gorillaz \u00bb. Dusted with elements of psychedelia, compounded by ethereal sonic landscapes and catapulted by melodic rhyme schemes, Boutique Feelings (Montr\u00e9al, CA) invites reflection on socio-political norms while offering an alternative take on hip-hop. Most commonly known as the singer, guitar and synthesizer player for the progressive psych rock collective, Atsuko Chiba, Karim Lakhdar continues to challenge genre classification by weaving together components from hip-hop, krautrock and electroacoustic music in his new project, Boutique Feelings. Subverting traditional compositional techniques, he explores themes of cultural and personal identity through vivid offbeat storytelling and catchy distortion-mangled hooks. Lakhdar notes that \u201cthe genesis of the project stems from a love for Hip-Hop, with influences ranging from OutKast and Madlib to Kim Gordon and Gorillaz\u201d. As a result, the music toes the line between rap, psychedelic funk, trip-hop and sample-based music. Boutique Feelings\u2019 third single, \u201cI.Y.W.M.\u201d, is out now via Mothland, completing the Montr\u00e9al rapper-producer’s introductory self-titled EP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magi Merlin (21h)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il ne serait pas tout \u00e0 fait exact de dire de Magi Merlin qu’elle est seulement chanteuse ou auteure-compositeur. La musique est en effet au c\u0153ur de son art, mais son univers s’\u00e9tend au-del\u00e0 du m\u00e9dium. C’est un univers aussi visuel qu’il est auditif qui prend forme au fil des collaborations avec son producteur Funkywhat, des designers, des photographes, des vid\u00e9astes et des r\u00e9alisateurs de films : Magi Merlin a r\u00e9cemment fait ses d\u00e9buts d’actrice en jouant dans le film \u00ab Mile End Kicks \u00bb de l’auteur-r\u00e9alisateur Chandler Levack (\u00ab I Like Movies \u00bb) aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria), Devon Bostick (Oppenheimer), Stanley Simons (The Iron Claw) et Juliette Gari\u00e9py (Red Rooms). Alors qu’elle a r\u00e9cemment pass\u00e9 la majeure partie de son temps en studio, Magi Merlin est maintenant de retour avec \u201cA Weird Little Dog\u201d, un EP inattendu et sans concession qui est sorti juste \u00e0 temps pour le d\u00e9but de sa tourn\u00e9e am\u00e9ricaine avec l’artiste de jazz contemporain Nubya Garcia. It would not be entirely accurate to refer to Magi Merlin as only a singer or a songwriter. Music is indeed at the core of her artistry, but her world expands beyond the medium. It is one that is equally visual as it is auditory, one that is continuously shaped through collaborations with producers such as Funkywhat, designers, photographers, video directors and even film directors: Magi Merlin recently made her acting debut with a role in the movie “Mile End Kicks” from writer-director Chandler Levack (\u201cI Like Movies\u201d). As she\u2019s been spending the majority of her time in the studio, Magi Merlin is back with A Weird Little Dog, an unexpected and unapologetic EP which comes out right on time for the start of an American tour in support of contemporary jazz artist Nubya Garcia. Co-produced by Merlin and Montreal beatsmith Funkywhat, \u201cA Weird Little Dog\u201d sees the former leaning deeper than ever into her artistic integrity, intentionally avoiding traditional commerciality and trusting her fans and listeners to take their time with this work and hopefully, see themselves in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
