N\u00e9 \u00e0 Sherbrooke en 1981, Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric d\u00e9m\u00e9nage \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al en 1999 pour y \u00e9tudier la composition musicale assist\u00e9e par ordinateur. Il d\u00e9bute ensuite une carri\u00e8re en sonorisation et, de 2006 \u00e0 2009, \u00e9tudie la composition \u00e9lectroacoustique au Conservatoire de Musique de Montr\u00e9al. Il puise son inspiration dans la technologie et sa vision du futur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric was born in Sherbrooke in 1981. He moved to the Montreal area in 1999 to study computer-assisted musical composition. He then began a career as a sound engineer and studied electroacoustic composition at the Montreal Conservatory of Music from 2006 to 2009. Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric draws his inspiration from technology and his visions of the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je suis toujours \u00e0 la recherche d\u2019une mati\u00e8re sonore pr\u00e9gnante, r\u00eache et \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique, dans l\u2019id\u00e9e que la mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 des sons donne acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la sensation, et g\u00e9n\u00e8re \u00e0 la fois du sensible et du sens\u00e9.
Plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment, mes recherches impliquent la spatialisation sur d\u00f4me de haut-parleurs, les m\u00e9tamorphoses continues du flux sonore ainsi que l\u2019impr\u00e9visibilit\u00e9 et l\u2019imperfection dont le vivant a le secret et que je retrouve dans l\u2019improvisation sur mon dispositif no-input du projet Miss Take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be it electroacoustic music, mixed music, sound installations or improvisations, the music of\u00a0Monique Jean\u00a0is engaging a present that happens now. She focuses on the tensions, fractures, and shocks of sound materials to transmute reality into poetry. She works on sound materials as if they were complex organisms animated by forces that keep them in constant evolution.
Since 2012, in search of a harsh, raw sound, she has been integrating analogue and no-input elements to her set-up as sources of instability and unpredictability.\u00a0
Her works have been selected by several competitions and performed and broadcast in several national and international concerts and festivals, including Multiphonies (Paris, France), Akousma (Montr\u00e9al), Sonorities (Belfast, Northern Ireland), NYCEMF\u00a0(New York, USA), The San Francisco Tape Music Festival (USA), Ai-maako (Santiago, Chile), and Elektra (Montr\u00e9al). In 2012, she was invited for a residency at Fondation Civitella Ranieri in Umbertide (Italy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manja Risti\u0107, n\u00e9e \u00e0 Belgrade en 1979, est violoniste, artiste sonore, po\u00e8te, commissaire d\u2019exposition et chercheuse. Elle est dipl\u00f4m\u00e9e de l\u2019Acad\u00e9mie de musique de Belgrade (2001), puis du Royal College of Music de Londres, o\u00f9 elle a obtenu le PGDip Solo\/Ensemble Recitalist (2004). En tant que soliste classique et chambriste, compositrice et musicienne d\u2019improvisation, elle s\u2019est produite dans toute l\u2019Europe et aux \u00c9tats-Unis, en collaboration avec des chefs d\u2019orchestre, des interpr\u00e8tes, des artistes multim\u00e9dias, des po\u00e8tes et des metteurs en sc\u00e8ne de th\u00e9\u00e2tre et de cin\u00e9ma reconnus.
Les recherches de Risti\u0107 li\u00e9es au son, outre la performance contemporaine dans le domaine de l\u2019\u00e9lectroacoustique instrumentale, se concentrent sur les approches interdisciplinaires de l\u2019enregistrement sonore et de terrain ainsi que sur les arts radiophoniques exp\u00e9rimentaux.
Laur\u00e9ate de plusieurs prix prestigieux pour la musique classique soliste et de chambre, laur\u00e9ate de l’Acad\u00e9mie Charles Cros S\u00e9lection Musiques Exp\u00e9rimentales 2024, elle d\u00e9tient une mention honorable des Phonurgia Nova Awards et un Golden Award pour les m\u00e9dias \u00e9tendus de l’Association des Beaux-Arts de Serbie. Elle est membre fondatrice du CENSE – Central European Network for Sonic Ecologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manja Risti\u0107, born in Belgrade in 1979, is a violinist, sound artist, published poet, curator, and researcher. She graduated from the Belgrade Academy of Music (2001), then awarded at the Royal College of Music, London, with PGDip Solo\/Ensemble Recitalist (2004). As a classical solo and chamber musician, as well as a composer and an improv musician She has performed all across Europe and in the US, involving collaborations with established conductors, performers, multimedia artists, poets, and theatre\/film directors. Risti\u0107\u2019s sound-related research besides contemporary performance in the field of instrumental electro\u2013acoustics, is focused on interdisciplinary approaches to sound and field recording as well as experimental radio arts.
The winner of several distinctive awards for solo and chamber classical music, laureate of the Academy Charles Cros S\u00e9lection Musiques Exp\u00e9rimentales 2024, holds an honorable mention from the Phonurgia Nova Awards, and a Golden Award for the extended media from the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia. She is a founding member of CENSE \u2013 Central European Network for Sonic Ecologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans l\u2019\u0153uvre\u00a0ghosts, j\u2019utilise des instruments obsol\u00e8tes \u2013 un synth\u00e9tiseur modulaire EMS Synthi 100, une roue de fauteuil roulant abandonn\u00e9e r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9e dans la mer Adriatique et le piano tomb\u00e9 en d\u00e9su\u00e9tude qui appartenait au conceptualiste, cin\u00e9aste, improvisateur, photographe, environnementaliste et \u00e9crivain autrichien \u2013 Karl Katzinger, alias John Tylo (octobre 1953 \u2013 avril 2021).
\u00c0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments du pass\u00e9 et de leurs voix red\u00e9couvertes, j\u2019int\u00e8gre le traitement en direct d\u2019enregistrements d\u2019hydrophones et de terrain, d\u2019objets trouv\u00e9s et de champs \u00e9lectromagn\u00e9tiques, provenant de plusieurs endroits, en me les appropriant \u00e0 travers le discours du tourisme critique et d\u2019une culture de la m\u00e9moire \u2013 plus sp\u00e9cifiquement en \u00e9coutant les souvenirs inh\u00e9rents \u00e0 la d\u00e9vastation environnementale et \u00e0 la guerre \u2013 dans le sud de l\u2019Adriatique, sur la c\u00f4te atlantique et dans les r\u00e9gions frontali\u00e8res tch\u00e9co-autrichiennes de l\u2019ancienne ceinture du rideau de fer, y compris la r\u00e9gion des anciens camps de travail de Mauthausen-Gusen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do we approach the landscape of severe devastation and a dense history of warfare?
In the work\u00a0ghosts\u00a0I am using obsolete instruments \u2013 a modular synthesizer EMS Synthi 100, a discarded wheelchair wheel salvaged from the Adriatic Sea, and the piano fallen in disuse which belonged to the Austrian conceptualist, filmmaker, improviser, photographer, environmentalist, and writer \u2013 Karl Katzinger aka John Tylo (October 1953 \u2013 April 2021).
Next to these elements of the past and their voices rediscovered, I am incorporating live processing of hydrophone and field recordings, found objects, and electromagnetic fields, from several locations, appropriating them through the discourse of critical tourism and a culture of memory \u2013 more specifically through listening to the inherent memories of environmental devastation and warfare \u2013 in the South Adriatic, on the Atlantic coast, and the Czech-Austrian borderlands former Iron Curtain belt, including region of former Mauthausen\u2013Gusen working camps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
