Ce printemps, il sort African Rhapsodies, o\u00f9 se rencontrent la musique traditionnelle ouest-africaine et la musique symphonique. Surnomm\u00e9 \u201cle Hendrix de la kora\u201d, ce musicien de Ziguinchor, qui vit au Royaume-Uni, a ajout\u00e9 une 22\u00e8 corde \u00e0 son instrument (celle dont la l\u00e9gende dit qu\u2019elle aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 enlev\u00e9e par le premier griot \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque de Soundjata Keita) afin de couvrir un plus grand nombre d\u2019octaves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Si le Montr\u00e9alais Zal Sissokho est un griot, ce qui n\u2019est pas le cas Seckou Keita, bien que sa m\u00e8re soit de la m\u00eame lign\u00e9e que Zal, la d\u00e9marche des deux artistes se ressemble, mue par le m\u00eame souci d\u2019exploration et de rencontres respectueuses entre les cultures. Boursier du Conseil des arts du Canada et du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Qu\u00e9bec, Zal Sissokho est notamment connu pour ses projets sortant des sentiers battus comme Kora Flamenca ou Famal\u00e9, aux intonations br\u00e9siliennes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally from Ziguinchor in Senegal and now living in Britain, Seckou Keita has been dubbed the \u201cHendrix of the Kora.\u201d To be able to cover more octaves, he added an extra string to his kora, which, as legend would have it, was taken from the first griot in the time of Soundjata Keita.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While Montrealer Zal Sissokho is a griot, that\u2019s not the case for Seckou Keita, even though his mother and Zal both descend from the same linage. Nevertheless, the two artists share a similar approach and are driven by the same desire for the respectful exploration and meeting of cultures.
