Actif en tant qu’\u00e9ducateur et chercheur, Makhathini dirige le d\u00e9partement de musique de l’universit\u00e9 de Fort Hare, dans la province du Cap-Oriental. Il s’est produit dans des festivals renomm\u00e9s, notamment le Cape Town International Jazz Festival et l’Essence Festival (\u00e0 la Nouvelle-Orl\u00e9ans et en Afrique du Sud). En 2019, il a fait ses d\u00e9buts au Blue Note Jazz Club de New York, ainsi qu’au Jazz at Lincoln Center, o\u00f9 il \u00e9tait l’invit\u00e9 principal de Wynton Marsalis et du Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra lors de leur c\u00e9l\u00e9bration musicale de trois nuits intitul\u00e9e The South African Songbook au Rose Theater. Il est membre du groupe de Shabaka Hutchings, Shabaka and the Ancestors, et appara\u00eet sur l’album Wisdom of Elders (2016). Il a \u00e9galement collabor\u00e9 avec des artistes tels que Logan Richardson, Nasheet Waits, Tarus Mateen, Stefon Harris, Billy Harper, Azar Lawrence et Ernest Dawkins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Active as an educator and researcher, Makhathini is the head of the music department at Fort Hare University in the Eastern Cape. He has performed at renowned festivals including the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and the Essence Festival (in both New Orleans and South Africa), and in 2019 made his debut appearances the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City, as well as Jazz at Lincoln Center where he was a featured guest with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on their 3-night musical celebration The South African Songbook in Rose Theater.
