The evening starts with the soft and dreamy tones of Le Vaisseau d’or. The group with an enigmatic name, probably inspired by a poem by Émile Nelligan, will present its dream-pop in which jangle pop mixes with shoegaze. Then, Population II, a trio led by drummer and singer Pierre-Luc Gratton, take you into their heavy and esoteric embrace, with space-rock that flirts with jazz and blues. The band was notably part of the programming of the Taverne Tour and the Phoque OFF (festival on the fringe of RIDEAU) in February.
Braids, an art-rock band originally from Calgary and based in Montreal for the past 10 years, will then play Shadow Offering in its entirety. The trio has returned to their roots with this fourth album, released last June on Secret City Records. Braids recently completed a “24-hour world tour” from their studio, which included six live shows, each in a different time zone. Each show currently attracts between 2,000 and 5,000 viewings.
Finally, DJ Awwful presents a set around midnight. The artist released Affection this year, an album with synthwave, new wave and industrial sounds that evoke, among others, the Italian musician Victor Love (founder of the late Dope Stars Inc.). Awwful was named Best Club DJ for 2019 by Cult MTL, and also received attention for Best Solo Act. In addition, VJs Render Tex and Daphnee4000 paint the dome with their virtual murals. So it’s an appointment at 9 p.m., in the comfort of your living room, or at the SAT!
